YOU don't have to sign up. Ebay "signs up". Ebay is the client, not you. Ebay takes the payment and passes it along to you.
While Chris is referring to demand or requirements for Adyen, I thought he/she was referring to the credit check they mentioned.

Please tell me where it says that "there is a 3 step process"?
I cannot find that wording anywhere in the announcement.
The only thing that is close to that is:
https://www.ebayinc.com/stories/news/ebay-to-intermediate-payments-on-its-marketplace-platform/
- To enable payments in their eBay accounts, sellers should expect to provide eBay with some additional payments-related data and transition to a new relationship with eBay that includes integrated payments capabilities.
- Sellers will be required to complete these steps in order to continue selling on eBay, and it is anticipated that this transition for sellers will occur no later than one year after the expiration of eBay’s Operating Agreement with PayPal, i.e., by July 2021.
- As eBay gets closer to the initial phase of its intermediation efforts, it will share more details about this process and next steps for its sellers. In the meantime, sellers can contact eBay now at paymentsinfo@ebay.com to stay up-to-date on eBay’s payments efforts and timing, share feedback and ask questions.

Well it comes a cross as three step process . It depend's On how one reads it and interpretation they gotten from it. Not sure why you got upset about my interpretation of it.

They also don't offer Billpoint or Ebay Express anymore. They did at one time though. Things change for whatever reason...like Billpoint wasn't as reliable as PAYPAL or buyers didn't want to shop on a parallel site for new stuff on Ebay Express.
The UA can change at their whim. And often does.

So, please tell me what your "interpretation" of the "3 steps that sellers need to take to accept Adyen" is.
I'm not upset ... I am just trying to keep speculation, rumour and misinformation from being stated as "fact" ... and maybe help others work through things that they "think" have been said by eBay when eBay has not actually said anything about the actual nuts and bolts of this transition at all yet.

So whats the bottom line? Then? Another way to get rid of small sellers? well I wouldnt worry about it, no one is going to do it, or like it. It's going to make all the buyers nervous. We have been buying on here 20 years, and have always used paypal to buy. It always works good. It's a good company. Oh I know at times people have issues with it, but what the heck is AdYEN? I love the yen part too. Are they trying to ruin this company on purpose? seems like it? Maybe it' not crashing quick enough? It will all work out. People are smart. I've seen them all migrate over to etsy.... and other places. I just watch and follow the crowds.

From the announcement
"To enable payments in their eBay accounts, sellers should expect to provide eBay with some additional payments-related data and transition to a new relationship with eBay that includes integrated payments capabilities."
Heaven forfend that I should speculate before further eBay annoucements, but...
In order to use PayPal as a seller I have had to provide PayPal with my social security number and information about a bank account.
I suspect that I will be asked to provide the same information to eBay-Adyen if I want to keep selling on eBay.
If only eBay didn't continue to produce a seemingly unending series of site glitches...

To buyers ... there should be no noticeable difference at all.
Adyen supports PayPal as a payment option.
When you purchase anywhere else online or in-store do you know who the store's payment processor is? Do you even care?
You plug your payment info in or swipe your card and you get your merchandise. The back-end payment processing is invisible to you as a buyer.
If you buy something from me on Etsy, you can use your PayPal account ... but that money doesn't go into my PayPal account. It is processed by Adyen (!) and into my Etsy seller account, which gets automatically transferred into my Business Checking account.
I don't need a PayPal account on Etsy to accept PayPal payments ... and I won't need one here either, when this is all said and done.
Buyers will be able to pay using a variety of methods (including PayPal).
The changes are all going to be on the seller end.
Re: The word "Adyen" (if you bother to read the "about" page on Adyen.com) has nothing to do with "yen".
"To mark the new beginning, our founding team called the business Adyen – Surinamese for “Start over again”, and focused on building a frictionless, state-of-the-art infrastructure that connects directly to card schemes and payment methods around the world, enabling businesses to accept payments and grow revenue online and in store in a single system"
Imagine that ... an international company, based in the Netherlands, with offices around the world ... used a *gasp* "foreign" word ... probably just to vex those xenophobic Americans 😞

In a sense they are acting as an escrow agent, plus they get to play with everybody's money.

That's actually my only concern........how often are they going to payout? With Amazon getting two payouts a month can be a cashflow concern. Getting paid immediately with Ebay/PayPal is nice cashflow feature. I hope they don't overlook that.

Of course, this transistion from PayPal to Adyen requires that buyers sign up with Adyen.
As someone who buys on eBay, I look forward to seeing eBay's efforts to convince me and other buyers to enroll with Adyen and entrust it with my financial information
I doubt that very much, Ayden would be running the back-office functions, it's unlikely buyers would ever know who they were. All that buyers would know is that payments on eBay would work just like they do pretty much everywhere online, you buy, you checkout, you choose a payment method, credit card, PayPal or likely some other options. Just like elsewhere eBay can retain your preferred payment method allowing "1-click" checkout if desired.
^^^ This. That's essentially how Etsy works. They also brought their payment processing "in-house" a couple of years ago which has meant very little to buyers. Buyers don't have to sign up for anything in order to pay. They have a choice of payment options -- Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, Paypal upon checkout plus a couple of others that are European that I can't remember the name of right now.
On the seller side, there's no need to go over to PayPal to check on anything. Money from sales automatically is deposited in your Etsy account no matter what payment method was used. You just go to your Etsy account dashboard to see your transactions, purchase/print mailing labels and make any payments for listing fees, postage, etc. all on the Etsy site.
At Etsy, money in your sales account is automatically transferred once a week to the bank account you've specified. You can go in and request an earlier transfer of funds if you don't want to wait though it's usually handy to have a balance available to cover any fees/mailing labels. You have to give them a back-up payment source in the event you don't have enough money in your account which is no different than what PayPal requires eBay sellers do now.
I never pay my Etsy fees or labels out of my payment account. I always transfer the funds as soon as they are available, then I pay my Etsy invoices with my PayPal debit card so that I get that cashback bonus.
