General Add-on ... not a reply to anyone in particular.
I posted this in one of the smaller threads and just wanted to repeat it here ...
All this speculation is just that ... we don't know ANYTHING yet about how it will work.
I'm already seeing people taking it as "fact" that this will result in funds holds and fee increases. *sigh*
What we DO know:
Here is what I get out of this ... right now, all of the international sites (.com, .co.uk, .in, .hk, etc) are disjointed at checkout because of payment options that may be available on one and not the other. PayPal is not universal across sites (and actually operates as different entities in different countries where it is available). Unifying checkout across sites will make the buyer experience a bit smoother, IMO.
And more opinion ... buyers that shop elsewhere checkout with their credit card. That is the norm for online shopping. The whole third party site payment thing that is PayPal is foreign to non-eBay buyers ... and eBay is trying to attract new buyers (which is a good thing for eBay sellers).
As an Etsy seller, this is not a "new" concept for me. My sales go into my business checking account once a week (yes, I could transfer everyday but I don't) ... no need for me to maintain 2 separate accounts and transfer funds back and forth.
Another thing is no "3 shots at the prize" disputes ... eBay, PayPal and then Credit Card ...only 2 .. eBay and then Credit Card.
Enough out of me LOL ... I would just like us all to not jump on the chicken little bandwagon and start spouting conjecture as "truth" when discussing this. Let's ask the right questions and not just make "noise" and get hysterical and start mixing discussions about other things into this.
I would like us, here in the Selling Community, to put together a list of questions we need the answers to ... and to keep asking those SPECIFIC questions until we get SPECIFIC answers.

What happens if you sell on multiple sites in different currencies?
Exchange rates, will separate bank acounts be required in each country, etc?

Funny how everyone is assuming so much when we actually know very little - reminds me of back in the day....... and the boards were crazy over this!

Ebay also will find out only 50% Or Less of the sellers will meet Adyens requirements to get a acount with them . I was On adyen's website and found out I don't meet their requirments for a acount .
YOU will not get (or need) an account with Adyen.
Adyen will process the payment for eBay.
How eBay will be dispersing the funds has yet to be revealed.
You have sign up into Adyen . I will not sign up.

You go there, you "swipe" your card and you're done.
Only on the back end might this matter. As a brick and mortar we changed our processor and not one customer noticed. They still swiped their cards and we still got paid.
Everything on that side right now is speculation. From reading here I would be certain that eBay was now going to do a 2 week hold, keep all your money and force you to have to work for free. If someone could show me where it says that is true, I would be very interested. Right now it's just hysteria. Gee, eBay sellers getting hysterical when something changes. I'm shocked.
It isn't really a matter of which payment processor is being used - people will have to give their information to someone. On Amazon, the someone who gets the info is Amazon - and on ebay, that someone will be ebay.
(with whom the info gets traded, leased, rented, or shared, is then up to them - read the privacy statement and the UA)

Most folks just won't like the rolling reserve I figure ebays based on 90 days so that will probably be the time line. They might also use the 50/50 split on the 90 days. They are all sitting here reading the posts, but their absence speaks volumes....

No, YOU don't.
eBay is Adyen's client.
Just the same as you don't have to have a PayFlow account now. Currently, right now, eBay checkout allows for Credit Card payments .. directly ... without the buyer having to have a PayPal account. Those payments are processed though eBay's PayFlow account into your PayPal account.
I sell on Etsy.
Etsy is one of Adyen's clients.
I do not need an account with Adyen to sell on Etsy.
Buyers pay Etsy though the Adyen portal ... Etsy disburses the funds to my bank account.

Please link to where it states there will be a rolling reserve.
This has not, to my knowledge, been stated ANYWHERE.

The only reason I am not in favor of this, from a seller standpoint, is because of the payment timeline. With PayPal, transfer to the bank are almost instantaneous. And I can use my PP on many websites. So it’s not like MY money is tied. With this Adyen thing, they haven’t announced how long it will take to get paid and if there will be a weekly deposit like Etsy but if it’s like Etsy, I don’t like that. I deal with something similar on other venues and I don’t like it one bit but it is what it is. I prefer PayPal. As a buyer, I like the added layer of protection you get from PayPal. And I do not want my card information stored on eBay by eBay. There are too many instances of hacked eBay accounts. But at the end of the day, as long as I can still accept and use PayPal if and when I want, it’s all good. I don’t see this change as something negative at all. But I do think there is good reason to be skeptical and question whether or not ebays programmers can program it to work right 🙂
