- Listed my vehicle for sale
- item sold to the highest bidder
- buyer did not respond to any of my contact attempts and did not pay
- I attempted to cancel the transaction
- buyer did not respond to cancel request
- I closed the whole transaction, on the suggestion of an ebay customer service rep
- Because the item initially "sold", I was charged the $125 selling fee
- When the transaction was cancelled and closed, I was "credited" $125 in my ebay account.
I have called ebay customer service 4 separate times over the last week trying to figure out how to get the refund back into my bank account. 3 out of the 4 ebay representatives told me to not worry, and just wait another day for the system to catch up and refund me this money. Still nothing. I called ebay today, and now I am told that I need to wait until the end of December? Meanwhile, $125 of my money is just sitting out in the void, and I'm scrambling to make rent. Ebay customer service SUCKS and they don't help me, but instead just read the same information repeatedly, which is the same information I'm able to access on my own computer. I just want my money back! I did not sell the item, so I should have the $125 refunded to my account! Why am I continuously told to wait, and then find that the money is still not transferred? Am I just being delayed again and again so that ebay never has to pay me my money? This is ridiculous. I'm a broke recent graduate, and I have enough financial troubles as it is. Now ebay is basically just stealing $ from me and refusing to pay. Wish I had a lawyer.

- The policy page for eBay Motors Fees used to say that the successful listing fee was not refundable, but it doesn't say that anymore.
I knew I couldn't find it where I thought it should be, but the Help pages aren't always that helpful either.
Well it did at 7:00 this morning.
Other terms
Insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees apply to each listing you create, are charged at the time of listing, and are nonrefundable.
Yes, "Insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees apply to each listing you create, are charged at the time of listing, and are nonrefundable."
But, the fee in question was a Successful Listing Fee, and that is NOT listed as being nonrefundable.
Cut me some slack here, it was 7 AM
The key word in the successful listing fee is "you may be charged"
So it is worth a shot, or three or four.
But by the criteria, the op had a successful sale for all ebay knows.
Motors sales are best done in cash, local pickup.
I can see ebay saying hey your car sold, you owe us money for the successful listing.

@sockmonkeydave, you can have all the slack you want or need, as long as I can have some too, OK?
I did not mean to come down hard on you or anyone, I was just trying to clear up a misunderstanding and help the OP. A bit of OCD, I guess.
"I can see ebay saying hey your car sold, you owe us money for the successful listing."
Yes, I 'm sure they do, sometimes. I think it depends on the circumstances and the communication between between buyer and seller. There have always been sellers who reported that they had gotten a refund of the successful listing fee.
eBay staff have confirmed that this is something that customer service can decide based on the circumstances.

Lots of vehicle listings require a deposit to be paid through PayPal. I'll bet it makes a dfference if there was a deposit paid, and if the deposit was returned or not.
It wouldn't be fair if the seller kept the non-refundable deposit of maybe $250 or $500, and then got the $125 fee credited back as well.
But, in OP's situation, that would not be the case. There was no deposit required on the listing, and OP said there was no communication at all. If the buyer never contacted the seller (and eBay would know that), then there was no way that the sale could have been completed.

@*eponymous* wrote:@sockmonkeydave Nope. Listing is free. The $125 is a successful listing fee on a listing that ends with a bid or BIN.
@mirandawiley00 OP, the fvf credit is an account credit, not a cash credit.
Correction...successful sales fee. Not listing fee.
Correct on both, epon. Only because ebay gives every low-volume vehicle seller 6 free listings every year.
Most likely they do this because they know that 90% of them won't be actually paid for or sold for real.
Actually, no. Not correct, epon. @sockmonkeydave was correct on this one.
It is called a Successful Listing Fee, not a "successful sales fee". The link goes to the eBay policy page for this fee.
And if the sale is not actually completed, the Successful Listing Fee can be credited to the seller's account, and then refunded if requested. The credit has already been done for the OP, who is now just waiting for the refund.
