Ebay Sellers Fees

Ebay has made wheeling and dealing in "best offer" platform darn near impossible with all the new found fees they charge in managed payments. Having to figure the new increased percentages (jewelry is now 12%) in all categories and apply that % to the item, the sales tax, and the shipping has taken the fun out of bothering to list. Not to mention, they do not show you what it will cost you when an offer comes in. You have to figure it out yourself. I go ballpark - 10% for all state's sales tax - and let me tell you, it cuts into your profit.

I went to the lowest level of store, I do not have incentive to list, nor to accept offers now. Ebay may have ripped their shorts on this one. They have no business charging sellers who provide their inventory and excellent customer service fees on taxes and ship which neither the seller or the buyer makes money on. But Ebay sure does!

Furthermore, Ebay gets to hold onto this collected money and invest it for a time. No wonder we were forced into managed payments. It is outrageous when you think of it. I hope everyone writes in and let's eBay see that they are actually going to lose money by running off good sellers who perform and used to provide great customer service. Now, can't be so accommodating with buyers wanting to make a deal.

Too much greed.

I also find I have no incentive to take the time to do a good listing. It takes a long time to photograph, write about, and measure items which make for a good listing. I find I will not go to the trouble to make so little once Ebay dips its gigantic paws into the deal. Sheesh!

Re: Ebay Sellers Fees

It's actually not that hard to figure. Just make it a straight 15% cost. You already should be charging your buyers for the shipping.  If your margin of profit is still too low then stop selling things you cannot make enough profit on. Too many people try selling anything and everything and it is not realistic when you have shipping to deal with.

Re: Ebay Sellers Fees

Well, if you don't need/want the money you make on ebay........I certainly see no reason for you to stay..........

As has been stated a number of times, the fees have not gone up that much......and if, as cool says, doing the math at 15%, is too much trouble and leaves you too little......well, not much more can be said.....

You mean just like PayPal does?

And Etsy does?

And Amazon does?

And credit card companies do?

"I wonder if it is even legal to do on taxes."

Don't you imagine that eBay has an attorney (or 200) who has already established the legality of this?

Re: Ebay Sellers Fees

This Country's average sales tax is 8%.

13% of 8% is 1%.

1% of $100 is $1.

Fee is 12.55% (same as 10% ebay and 2.9% paypal was, give or take).

13.55%

15% as suggested is a good rule of thumb

Re: Ebay Sellers Fees

We took credit cards in our B&M business from around 1979 on.

The credit card company (Moneris) charged their fee on the entire payment the customer gave us, including selling price and sales taxes, and sometimes on shipping if this was a mail order sale.

And it was the same fee on every part of the payment.

Come to think of it, the mall our shop was in took a percentage of our monthly income as part of our rent. Anyone who has worked from a shopping mall probably had the same deal in their lease. In a bad year, it meant lower rent, which could be very helpful.

We had a spirited discussion with them about why the percentage should not be paid on our mail order business. Our winning argument was that those mail order sales were not dependent on the venue we were renting.

EBay sales could not happen if eBay were not providing a venue, so that does not apply.

not on taxes and ship - those should be left alone. I wonder if some of these defending responses are from paid eBay bee swarm who come out if criticism made

Re: Ebay Sellers Fees

No, I am NOT an eBay employee.  Just pointed out that eBay probably had at least a little bit of legal advice before making this change.
