Ebay Robbery!

Wow, isn't that *bleep*

I sell an item for $553.96.

Ebay deducts $31.36 for Taxes and Fees.

Then another $129.88 for Selling Costs.

That's a whopping $161.24 or 30% going to Ebay.

Charging 30% to list an ad is absolutely ridiculous.  Amazon as I recall is worse.  Maybe the Trump administration can change some laws.

I will try to not use them in the future.

Good thing the Steinway I listed was sold through the buyer directly. Geez!

@chapeau-noir Yes, we have gone a bit off topic. Some select few posts have been removed. But it looks like yours passes muster.

I am guessing that they sold it through a local venue as opposed to eBay. Probably a good thing the shipping would have been a killer unless they used local pickup. Even then most Steinway's are a bit large for any SUV. Not to mention Steinway's weigh between 500 and 1,000 pounds.

Re: Ebay Robbery!

No sense trying to educate OP, they aren’t listening. They just came here to find people to agree with their rant.

Fact is, that there are folks who just aren’t equipped to sell on eBay. Those who jump in with no information and are upset with the fees (shouldn’t eBay be free?),  sell something large they have no clue how to ship, or get scammed out of their high dollar item in a category known for fraud. Or all of the above.

Re: Ebay Robbery!

The taxes collected don't go to ebay, that govt money there.  They just collect it.

It's hard to imagine the "leader of the free world" would bother doing anything about eBay fees.

I'm sure right after he fixes immigration and ends all wars he'll get right on the problem of sellers selling on ebay without finding out what the fees are first.

Re: Ebay Robbery!

Do not agree with you. EBay always has been transparent on fees, charges and taxes. I'm sure when you were signing to sell on EBay all this information was provided to you.

It does go to Ebay to be processed and then forwarded on to the various states and preset times.  Ebay does collect and remit it to the states.  So technically Ebay does receive the money to then at a later date process on to the right state.

Re: Ebay Robbery!

It's posts like this everywhere online complaining about the fees, taxes etc and the required government photo ID that have made me decided not to start listing again. It's been I guess 8+ years since I listed and it's just gotten worse. I'd rather throw away my 45 years of horded collectables than be put through the greed grinder by ebay and the government.

@samsmoke

Seems like you might be reaching for a reason to not sell here, but if you don't want to sell here, you simply don't have to and you don't have to explain it to anyone but yourself.  Do what is best for you.

With that said, if you were to read this thread, you'd find out that the OP of the thread was simply mistaken.  They simply didn't understand that when a buyer PAYS YOU to ship an item that the seller then has to buy shipping to ship the item out.
