I brought to local GIA ASA Master Gemologist Appraiser and paid for her to inspect ring in front of me. (Did not get written appraisal but when I get ring back from eBay, will be getting one) Sapphire had Zoning throughout face and was not only heat treated, but FLUX-FILLED. That in itself was NOT as described to me. He lied in his messages. There were 2 chipped stones (diamonds) on ring. None of these things were revealed in his listing and therefore all authenticators had to do was verify the diamonds were what he said they were and carat weight of sapphire and diamonds were correct. THAT was it! I had ring in my possession for less than week. Sent back. Guess what, one accent diamonds fell out at some point before authenticators received it back. Gemologist had told me that this ring setting was 1-cast mounting and that diamonds were not well mounted and that this ring would not last over time. She also said ring looked new and unworn. It was listed as an estate piece. So because an accent diamond fell out prior to authenticators receiving it, item did not go back as I “received” it. They won’t tell me where this diamond fell out of it or if it were one chipped diamonds. I am awaiting for ring to come back and taking it up with My Credit Card. I offered to pay for diamond even though he sold me a poor quality ring. Who gets jewelry where stones fall out in days? How is this acceptable? This seller designs rings for people if you look at his social platforms and NYC business. He knows what he sold me. This seller has had Google reviews in which customers diamonds have fallen out of their earrings and another review of BAit and switch. I wrote an objective negative feedback and eBay took it out. I specifically wrote that item not as described based on seller’s message to me and because of guaranteed authentication process, it was deemed “unfair “feedback. They wouldn’t even let me revise my feedback. So this seller has perfect feedback on eBay, many private listing feedbacks from same person over and over. not so perfect on google reviews. I found out that eBay can remove negative feedback for you so who knows how many of these 100% feedbacks are truly accurate?
JEWELRY Authentication is flawed even for buyers. You can have sellers like this one, sell you something of poor quality, lie to you in messages about description, receive a poor quality version of ring that was listed, have chipped diamonds in setting not disclosed, but still got to me. I thought I was going be protected by authentication. Ebay customer service was wonderful with me and i think they tried. They called and emailed seller to take ring back, but he refused.
And ebay has to stand by their flawed new system of guaranteed authentication. Even if seller blatantly lied about description in messages. Even if ring I received does not look like seller’s listing photos. Even if I was told by gemologist I went to that this ring was poor quality and diamonds were not well mounted into setting. They have to stand by their process. I will NOT be buying anything from Ebay that has go through authentication again. Hoping I have better luck with my credit card. I think obtaining a written appraisal from a GIA ASA MASTER Gemologist Appraiser will carry more weight for me. It is concrete proof vs my initial verbal inspection and some jotted down notes from her. I would take any suggestions from members here.
