Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

On Sep 24th, in my hotmail personal email box I got an email from Ebay saying I was offfed a  $30 promotion: If I list 3 items after Sep 25th, and the items are sold before Oct 5th, I will get $30 Ebay coupon ($5 for the first one, $10 for the second, and another $15 for the third one). Then I went to my Ebay account, and it shows the offer/promotion activated. Then I started to sell stuff, by Oct 5th, I sold 3 items that cost more than $40 averge which met every condition that listed in the promotion. But after that I don't see any coupon in my account, and all of my message/promotion was just wiped out including the email in my personal email box. I am pretty sure that I didn't delete anything, because I don't delete stuff.

Then I called the Ebay custom service, guess what, they will need a copy of the original promotion/Email to process. How am I supposed to get the copy when they are wipe out by Ebay, This is a total scam, I could have got more if I sell on craigslist for my items. I was selling on Ebay only becasue there was a 'COUPON'!. Then I did some reasearch on google, looks like some people also experience this. And I don't see any explanation from Ebay so far. So whoever see this, be aware, you will probably get nothing but upset.

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

I didn't mean Ebay did this for sure on purpose ( I don't want to believe that too). What I am expecting here is to draw some attention from Ebay. May there is some system gliches, and they are not aware of that. Because if it was only me I would have thought I delete everything by mistake, but I am not alone.

.... And to erase a message, ebay doesn't have to go to my email box, it can just recall a sent email, then the email will just gone. I do this all the time in outlook for cancelling the email that I've already sent out. I am not sure exactly what they did, but it should be pretty much the same.

Even in outlook, you can't recall a message if it has already been read by the receiver.

When you try to recall it, you can check a box to tell you the outcome. Then you will get an email back with the results of the recall for each person you sent it to. If they haven't read the message yet, it will be recalled successfully. If they have read it, then the recall fails. So recalling one message may work for some recipients and not for others.

I'm not disputing that you received the email, but you must have read it, so if it isn't in your inbox anymore, that's not eBay's fault.

When you get a promo like that, you need to go to the webpage that has the details for the promo, and bookmark. It can be very difficult to find the webpage if you didn't get the invitation. I can do it sometimes, but although I can find similar promos from 2016 and earlier this year, I can't find the one that is currently running.

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

Sorry, this happened.

Like I said, I never get coupons so I can't even check my email.

If you and the others you are familiar with all call CS and mention it, maybe some resolve can come from that.

Good luck to you!

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

I started my own thread on this.  If the message from eBay was ever in my Messages Inbox, eBay indeed deleted it.  Luckily, as soon as I received the email, I copied it onto my own personal inbox on my own hard drive--so I do have a copy.  Here is a copy&paste of the promotion, with my own username X'd out.

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

I only received a $15 coupon, so I called eBay.  After a very long hold, a transfer, and sending a screenshot, an employee finally agreed to send me an additional $15 coupon.

She lied.  No additional coupon ever arrived.

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

"OP is claiming that ebay removed it from their ebay messages AND from their private email, which is impossible and ridiculous to even suggest."

It is not impossible at all...you can recall emails, I used to do it at work all the time. Also, I remember a year or so ago the exact same scenario...coupons offered, hoops jumped through, and then the emails mysteriously went poof. I betcha someone else here remembers that or could find a thread referring to it.

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

It is not possible except in a closed email system (like your work email system) and only in an Outlook/Exchange environment configured to allow it.

The general internet email system (POP3/IMAP4/SMTP) is not capable of that.

There is no way eBay deleted an email (read or unread) from OP's Hotmail inbox. (aside from technical issues the privacy issues would preclude that happening- not even the sender has any business changing/deleting content in a non-corporate user's inbox)

Re: Ebay $30 selling promotion scam!

Update to my own thread:

Yesterday, I received the message and coupon from Ebay finally. Here I post the message, which is basically saying they had some system mistake caused the delay of my coupon.

I won't argue if Ebay can delete email from private email box anymore, check the thread that I marked as the solution, thanks to the dude's good habit of making a copy of mails. Like I said I won't believe Ebay did this intentionally but I don't understand why ebay doesn't want people to track their coupon offer status or at least keeping a record of the offer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

You’ll receive a coupon via email and Message Center on Wednesday, December 6, for participating in the recent promotion, “Earn a Coupon When You Sell.” An error within our coupon delivery system prevented you from receiving this coupon last month.

We apologize for this delay and any inconvenience it may have caused. You are a valued member of the eBay community, and providing you a better experience is our top priority.

Thank you for continuing to sell on eBay!
Kindest regards,
eBay Seller Experience Team
