When I put an item up for auction or sale, I do not want eBay making changes to that listing. Today I had been notified that eBay decided that I needed to accept offers for an item that had been listed for a whole week and had no bids. They decided to add to my listing that I would accept offers, even though they have no clue how much I paid for the item initially and they failed to ask my permission to make this change. I believe this is inappropriate and unethical behavior on eBay's part and should cease.

If your item doesn't sell, eBay says they will lower the best offer decline price to the trending price (dunno where I read that, maybe this week's chat). If you use the short listing form, eBay adds best offer.
It's not new that eBay constantly changes rules (published, unpublished, and secret), and sellers need to keep up at least with printed changes and opinions the blues offer.
Then they should prune the China listings by about 90%. As a buyer, it's really disappointing to be shown pages of Chinese and Indian fakes in some of my categories.
And the "USA Only" filter? eBay allows- or probably encourages- these sellers to state that their items are in the USA whether they actually are or not.

Wow it didn't sell for a whole week? Are they really that desperate?
They probably know there are an increasing number of member sellers here who are getting increasingly p'd off over lagging sales, so they're trying to do anything they can to get sellers to lower, lower, lower prices... until finally at what would qualify as 80% clearance price, the stuff sells... and then eBay can say "see, we knew if you weren't so overpriced, your item would sell. You can thank us later."

This change isn't so great to buyers either who may miss out buying an item because they send an offer to a seller who doesn't want one.
Seriously does Ebay ever think any of these changes through? How many threads do we see about seller is ignoring my offer or seller turned down a reasonable offer? We see them all the time. This change has the potential to drive away good buyers.
Just like the stock market. Short term gain for long term pain. Only in this case the long term isn't very long.

I have been saying this for years and years. It would also eliminate 95% of the bad scummy sellers. Let them all go to CL

I understand that and I sometimes sell long tailed items myself but to me raising listing fees WITH A REDUCTION IN FVF's is much more palatable than ebay modifying my listings and it would go a long way towards cleaning up the site.
I've never been against raising insertion fees and lowering FVFs - but they have to fix the glitches and clean up this site first so my listings don't fall below all these Chinese sellers. I've never been a fan of this new search, the multitude of overseas sellers swamping the categories with duplicates and if I'm taking the time to give item specifics, full descriptions and not just see pictures - I do expect to get better placement. Too often my items aren't seen because of the duplicate listings and listings that give no information to a buyer. They get fed up scrolling thru the garbage and don't even see my listings.

Be careful what you wish for.........
Higher insertion fees simply mean Ebay doesn't have to deliver sales to make money........ When they shifted more to fvf.....that made sense because they don't get paid unless we sell..........

They could always buy more servers.

Ebay knows who is clogging up the search pages, and it sure isn't us, and they know that too.
It's so easy to see who is....just do some simple searches and pay attention to what is in front of your eyes. Doh!
