EBAY PLEASE FIX - Unfair and arbitrary Feedback revision request limit...

Presently, I have a buyer who wants to change negative feedback. In the past, another buyer wanted to change negative feedback, but was unable to figure out the ebay revision form proceedure, apologizingly. Now that I have a buyer who wants to change feedback, I am told that I have "zero" feedback revisions available. This is so unfair and arbitrary. There should be a feedback revision available for every negative given. Many negatives are given in haste, or mistakenly or just plain wrong and subject to discussion. For these reasons alone, there should be a revision available for every negative since negatives are so harmful to sellers ability to sell.

FYI for future reference.  If a buyer mentions that you gave them a refund in the FB in the future and they had filed a INAD, you can get that FB removed, you don't have to mess with seeing if they will revise it.  It is against the FB rules for a buyer to mention the outcome of an INAD in the FB they leave.  Just a tidbit to keep in your back pocket so to speak.

That feedback is an excellent example of buyer ignorance blaming seller. A USA 220v plug has three very large angled prongs. You might have seen this plug at the end of a washing machine or dryer machine cord.

The little soldering iron he bought has a regular 2 prong plug like for plugging in around the house. It was impossible for him to have plugged the little 2 prong into a washing machine type receptacle.

If he took it overseas, he would have had to add an adapter to the plug for the overseas 220v plug type. This could have burned it out as he mentioned. But the device itself as sold is meant for and rated for normal USA 120v household wall outlet. I was really upset I could not even talk to him about it. He never responded probably because he could not figure out how to use the ebay message system.

You need to consider how many transaction a seller has had in that time.  Are you close to the size of seller they are?

Doesn't matter as the # of FB Revisions allowed is a % of transactions. I've never exceeded mine.

It matters a great deal.  You were comparing your experience with this issue to the OP's, so yes it matters.  The more transactions, the more exposure for negative FB.  Also the categories in which a seller is selling is important.  Some categories experience a higher average of returns, problems, etc.  That is just a fact.  Electronic and Fashions are probably the two categories with the highest amount of issues.

FB by anyone is subjective and sometimes driven by incorrect information.

As for the policy.  It reads as follows.

You can only request a revision for feedback that is less than 30 days old, and can make 5 feedback revision requests per calendar year.

For every 1,000 feedback ratings you receive during the year, you can make 5 additional feedback revision requests. However, these additional feedback revision requests don't carry over into the following year.

Mostly.  You are correct, everyone gets 5 per the policy link above.  Then for every 1,000 FB ratings you get an additional 5.

A 220V plug is not the problem your buyer overseas was having. Even if the buyer wanted to they would not have used a 220V plug for a soldering gun (impossible). The problem is you need to stop selling overseas immediately because their frequency is 50 cycles and the USA is 60. NOTHING electrical you sell there will work and it is not worth the trouble to adapt it.

All good points. The overseas use was just an assumption. He had a US address. I was just covering all the possibilities of why he thought it was the tool. Sold hundreds of this same tool with no problem. Then this strange buyer's statement in negative feedback and no other response. My point was that eBay makes it too easy to use feedback for communication. People are having trouble using the eBay message system.

Just an update:

One buyer went to all the trouble of contacting customer service and somehow got the negative feedback removed. Another buyer, so far, has not been able to change it. These were simple buyer overreactions and they feel the feedback should be changed. But, do to eBay arbitarary feedback change limitations, the buyer is left with an unhappy experience in form of wrongful feedback left ...... FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems like a lot of trouble for the buyer to call customer service. Go to the bottom of your feedback page and there's a link to "follow up to feedback left for others"- here's the direct link:

https://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviewFeedbackLeft

The buyer can go there, find the feedback they left for you and click the follow up link on the right. It can be as simple as the buyer leaving a follow up that says "Negative left in error- please disregard."

I know, itsn't it amazing the trouble she went to. When she said she got it removed, I had to see for myself. It  was unbelieveable the amount trouble it must have been to deal with customer service.

I'm curious as to how many times you think you should be allowed to request a revision.  It appears to that you've already received 24 in the last 12 months and I don't think that includes requests in which the buyer declined.  How many do you need?

Thought answered before - maybe different post. Anyway, one revision available per neutral or negative. It would be a simple fairness fix to the process. Buyer can still ignore or even change to more relevant answer (feelings or emotions, for example).

It's 24 for the lifetime of the account.

Really? I had a few Spanish speaking buyers who realized their mistake (expressed in emails to me). I was so sure they would change feedback (it was sporadic and unresponsive communicating with them in the message board) that I just sent the revision request anyway. One of the Spanish buyers changed it. So, I thought it was a good gamble. I did not know there was a life time limit? Wouldn't this be unfair to older seller accounts?

It depends on what is being sold. Just had a buyer tell me they own a SP705 printer and tell me the power supply does not work. I let them know the listing says (in the title) the power supply is for a Z705.  Unfortunately, it was an automatic return, and even though I could ship the power supply they needed, eBay time limits and other restrictions prevented saving the deal. Thank goodness they contacted me before leaving feedback.
