EBAY PLEASE FIX - I have said it before, and I will say it again....

... because I received another feedback BEFORE any contact. Please make previous message contact with seller a condition to leaving N. feedback. Newbies, nuts and non-readers do not seem to know how to use messages for contact. Instead, they use feedback for contact (see my latest neutral). Make them learn how to use the message system - or no feedback privileges.

I will not ask for a limousine or signing bonus for use of this idea.

Sure, buyers aren't "required" to contact the seller first, but if you don't then you have poor eBay etiquette.  It is good manners (and good karma) to contact the seller and give them a chance to resolve the issue.

I once sold a SDCC item that was sealed in a white box with minimal printing on it.  I mistakenly listed it as coming from the wrong year.  (I didn't open the sealed box to check because then the item wouldn't be mint in box.)  Buyer contacted me, understandably upset because the 2006 item that was sent was less valuable than the 2007 item it had been listed as.  I apologized profusely and fortunately did own a 2007 item as well, which I sent them and told them to keep the other item too.  We both walked away from the transaction happy.

Sorry that you had a **bleep** experience with a seller.  But it's silly to assume that all sellers will be like that and pre-emptively punish them.

ebay tried doing that several years ago, but it didn't work.

Ok, I'll bite. Tried? What, you mean one complaining, reclusive, hypochondriac called CS and said "...seller was mean to me..." and for eBay that equals it did not work? Sorry, I am feeling snarky and wanted to use snarky in a sentence.

Eh?

Don't shoot the messenger.

Take a look at my other post which explains how ebay tried it about 10 years ago.

I don't remember Ebay trying it, but I agree sellers have asked for it for years.

I think it was over 10 years ago when ebay tried it..

When a buyer went to leave a neg, 3 questions popped up, and one of the questions was "have you contacted the seller?"  and buyers had to check off 3 boxes, I can't remember what the other two questions were.

Anyway, some buyers lied and checked off the boxes and left a neg, and some buyers complained to ebay about having to check off the 3 boxes. I think it lasted for about 12 months before ebay removed the questions.

I see you actually answered while I was answering you. And, to the point, administrators at eBay made a bad decision based on "...some buyers...". It is actually a good decision to have communication first, but it takes knowledgable eBay administrators to make the correct decision and courage to hang to that decision. Changing to no communication requirement just leaves buyers and sellers in cancelled transaction pergatory. Not a good eBay memory. Not a happy place to be for either.

You have been shot? Not by me, I gave up my guns when I had kids. Wait, or do you mean that you are the hypochondriac?

I did not mean to be this clever, it just happened.

YES, it is not only a burn but a total scam. I have seen over and over again people come here and say they called CS crying sometimes up to 10 times until finally one of them takes the negative off. Another scam is when a buyer mentions in feedback they opened a dispute. Of course they opened a dispute because if they did not open a dispute they would not have negged the seller in the first place. Ebay needs to warn buyers to not mention opening a dispute.

How much financial harm does it do to a buyer to have a feedback removed? Where's the scam?

I thinks its stupid to have to do anything before leaving a neg

some people are just so full of it and deserve a neg

no mistaking when someone is trying to be sneaky and a crook

not everyone deserve a chance to make things right

Some buyers mistakenly believe the feedback section is for communication with the seller  . I got one where the buyer wrote '' It says you don't ship to Canada .. 🙂   Tulips

I will not ask for a limousine or signing bonus for use of this idea. OP

Well  ok,   instead I could have sent you over some champagne and caviar   but  sigh ,, this morning I just flew into a nasty rage and fired all the servants . Tulips

Because any future buyers purchasing from that seller would have had a heads up about the negs that where removed. The financial harm could be in several forms, ie. having to leave work early to reship[p the package, spend gas to get to the PO, waste time packing the item, waste time purchasing the item, and more time filing a snad on the seller. If they had a heads up about the seller in the first place by reading the negs they would have not bought from that seller. Hope that helps you understand why having negs removed is a scam in many instances. It also cost Ebay $$ because the buyer may not return.

If it's costing eBay $$$ then why do they keep doing it?

Ebay does not do it per say, the CS that has to keep hearing over and over again to please remove the neg is doing it. Like I said some will call 10 times straight to make it happen. It is even suggested here on the boards to keep trying and to not give up until it happens.

No matter how you spin it, it's eBay that allows it to happen. Period.

You can't tell me that this company is helplessly at the mercy of sellers and "rogue" CSRs.
