Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

I suddenly started to see this abomination again on all items, including mine. What's going on, I thought they gave up this demented idea long time ago????

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

I found out a couple/few weeks ago that I was in the stupid test and no matter how much cleaning of cookies/dust mites/cache, nothing worked (I am on a MacPro OS 10.12.5 with the latest Safari).

It was very painful to look at listings and having to notice/find the "full description" button and then have it open a new page with a description but it did not pull through any of the seller information.

This lasted through yesterday but this evening I see I am out of beta test hell. I have been a buyer/seller for 19+ (more likely 20 yrs) and this has been probably the worst buying "experience" to date. I am appalled with eBays continued disregard as to how such unannounced and financially damaging "tests" are thrust upon sellers/buyers. eBay simply shrugs its shoulders and offers no apology or offers of recompense to those (no doubt many) sellers hit by lost sales and/or returns as buyers did not know there were details hidden. And how can eBay convince the buyers to come back who searched and found an item, only to find virtually zilch details with this test?

I still periodically consider resuming a part time selling career here (gave up in 2009 or so, I think). Okay, I will have to accept the new seller status 21 day paypal holds. But, but...now they will be hiding my detailed descriptions for the collectibles I sell? Heck no!!!

Not a herald of things to come?  Then is it being done for a laugh?  A way to fill your time and see what the reaction will be?  You are costing us views and therefor money.  Remember that when you do something that cuts our sales you get less money too?  I am so sick of people who try to justify their position and job by coming up with half baked ideas with no thought to the consequences!  Actually, this is a quarter baked idea since it was tried before and failed and someone couldn't even come up with an original idea to screw us so they dug it out of the reject pile!

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

Top-rated seller here, for years. Never commented on the discussion board. Never bothered by the constant changes that prompted complaints in the discussions. Until now.

Hiding the item description (it is hidden in plain view, but still hidden) is in my opinion a way to encourage buyers to simply purchase something based on the picture/title alone. Many items need the description to be visible, it is important communication with a potential buyer. You are encouraging people to not bother with knowing the details, just buy the picture. This is going to lead to problems for sellers as in more item returns. But what does eBay care? The thinking is, it will increase sales because buyers are not bothered with a pesky description, they can just imagine their own.

For the first time ever, I do not feel at all comfortable selling on this site going forward. It's a big decision to stop, but this is the one change that has me looking elsewhere. I want this absurdly stupid item description link gone.

Explain to me how eBay thinks hiding a description will create more sales? Is it that descriptions are too large, slowing down page loads?

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

I thought this nonsense was only going to last a couple of weeks?  That was well over a month ago.  Just a few days ago I started seeing this stupid button again (just in Firefox).

I've been an ebay seller (and buyer) for a good 15 years and I've had a lot of minor complaints about changes, but for the most part I've learned to deal with them.  But this Item Description button is by far the worst idea anybody has ever come up with.

I even had one listing yesterday that I clicked on that DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A BUTTON!  In fact, it affected every single item from that particular seller.  Just the nonesne introductory part of the descritpion and NOTHING ELSE.  So I couldn't even click to see the full description.  Opened in a different web browser and it was fine.

Ebay if you're reading this PLEASE STOP THIS STUPID EXPERIMENT!

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

Ugh - I finally ran across a listing with the 'See full item desctiption' link in the description area.

If I clicked on the listing, what makes anyone think that I DIDN'T want to see the complete description? And clicking on it opens it up in a new tab(or window, depending on how you have yours set up).

SOOOOO useless!!!  And there isn't even a 'tell us why it stinks' link.

@cachecritters

The "See full item description" button is not a test anymore.

If you see that button in a listing, it means that the listing has insecure links (which start with http instead of https). If it's in your listing, then you need to update your listings and fix it, because browsers are going to start reporting that webpages with http content are not secure. This was announced Aug 23, 17.

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

"not as described" because description was hidden under that link!

Needless to say, horrible and dangerous change. Afraid we going to live with it, ebay rarely reverse such "experiments".

I still see normal listings with pictures inside description, and I pad attention that such listings always using some store navigation inside description. Maybe we can undo that button changing store subscription or store layout?   Any thoughts?

imagine how many "not as described" claims it will trigger - because it was actually no description!

@chicologne,

The reason for the "See full item description" button has been explained and publicized for months.  eBay provided a lot of advance notice and time for sellers to get their listings into compliance.

It's there on your listings now because they are not compliant with the new requirements for descriptions. You can scan your listings with this tool (provided by @shipscript) to find the problems, and get help to fix them.

http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/ActiveContentScanner.htm

It looks like most or all of your listings have links to off-eBay websites, and insecure non-SSL links (http instead of https).

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

Good grief. The only link I have in my listings are a LINK TO MY OTHER AUCTIONS, which is a link to Ebay. All of my listings now have this absurd hidden description. Thanks Ebay for once again making selling a huge hassle.

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

Not to mention that the new page that opens has ZERO details like item # or a photo or even the title.

Re: Dreaded "see full item description" button again????

@lacemaker3
this is simply not correct. My listing having no active content (like java scripts) inside, and you technically not able to list something that "not complain" with listing requirement.
