I suddenly started to see this abomination again on all items, including mine. What's going on, I thought they gave up this demented idea long time ago????

@Anonymous can you tell us whether it's a test or not?
Hey everyone, I can confirm that this is not a test and these changes were announced in the Spring 2016 Seller Update. See: http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/sprupd16/view-item.html#tab=whats-new for more details on this and: http://pages.ebay.com/sell/itemdescription/customizeyoursummary.html for more info on customizing the description your buyer's see. Our customer service team will be happy to help if you have further questions about your listings.
yes, and that was for mobile:
The new View Item description for mobile features a clean and consistent item description summary. eBay derives a brief, 250-character, text-only description summary from your full item description. This provides relevant listing information that allows shoppers to make fast, informed buying decisions.
why are some people on laptops and desktops seeing it?

Then why did the Ebay person who answered my question on the Ebay For Business Facebook page say they checked into it and that it was a test? You guys all need to get on the same page!
And if it is going to be normal then why was I able to delete all my Ebay cookies and get rid of it?
By the way, it is beyond horrible! The page that opens up when you click the View Button opens into a generic page that sometimes is lacking all formatting, spread clear across my 23" in monitor and looks very unprofessional.
I apologize for the misunderstanding, I was referencing the mobile view as I saw screenshots of the app within this conversation. The desktop display you reference does appear to be a test. I'll be sure to pass along your feedback on this so we can work to improve before rolling it out to a broader audience.

The greater question is:
At what point in time is eBay "no longer" just a selling platform/venue - but has become YOUR PARTNER?
eBay (with this and other things) seeks to control each and every part of the sale - so why arent THEY responsible for ANYTHING.
If its listed wrong (even in their catalog) YOU are responsible - not them
If the pics in their catalog are wrong, YOU are responsible - not them
YOU have to use Paypal (or get a very expensive merchant account - other payment methods are NOT allowed to be used) - THEY get to choose for you
Packages come late - its YOUR fault
You dont ship "ON DEMAND", its YOUR fault
You cant put borders, text or contact info IN YOUR OWN LISTING (whos listing is it anyway?)
the list goes on and on - even in returns - eBay decides that AS A SELLER - YOU ARE WRONG
The the coersion starts "if you dont offer what we tell you, your listings wont get shown OR we will create a way for the buyer to NOT see you."
When will eBay be responsible for ANYTHING? How abou the taxes that are involved? eBay charges you a %10 VIG on shipping (for no reason), it shows up ON YOUR BALANCE SHEET and YOU pay the taxes on it - ON TOP of paying eBay the fee.
Does it EVER end? If you want to be my partner, SAY so - Ill sell you my account - other wose = PLEASE leave us all alone with the stupidity .. PLEASE.

I hope by "work to improve" you mean "eliminate this totally backwards way of displaying listings on NON-mobile devices".
How could eBay possibly think it's a good idea to require a buyer to click a link on a full-size laptop/desktop to see the full description? Roll out to a broader audience? I hope not. I can see my eBay purchases plummeting if this happens. As a buyer I would HATE it. Why make it more work for the buyer? Not to mention the increased chance of SNADs for sellers when buyers don't make the effort to go through extra steps and read the full description...

I just spent money and time with crazylister to make sure all my listing were compliant and mobile ready. Now you can't even see all that work without clicking a button. That's really frustrating Ebay!!!!

eBay's customers, and their customers' customers by and large made it perfectly clear when they tried this 2 years ago that it was a 100% BAD IDEA! Why in blazes do they think that has changed now? Is this just a case of some pointy haired boss tossing this out there in hopes of justifying his continued employment with eBay or what?
Why not just listen to your customers' and our customers' feedback and heed our concerns, instead of pushing it on us all anyway despite everyone with any ounce of common sense telling you flat out NO?

The only way to inprove it is to remove it.

Just another one to add to the list of incompetence on eBay's part, then they think they are smarter than their users, that's a joke, you see what that kind of thinking did to Yahoo, the other thread going now confirms the ineptitude of eBay where you can't exchange a phone number with the seller if you need to call them for directions to pick up the stuff you purchased.
eBay needs new leadership across the top of this company now, this group is sinking the Titanic and all the sellers are going down with them.

Its really amazing that ebay would consider it eithical to do testing without a buyers or a sellers consent causing buyer fustration and the potential loss of sales for sellers as a result of that testing.
Seeing some of the listings I have seen now, its pretty messed up. The short description on many listings is gibberish pulled from different parts of the full description, some do not even contain key words. Some sellers are attempting to get around it by making their description one long run on sentance. Sure it makes it pull up better in the short description but its really looks tacky and un professional.
As a buyer, I hate it.

The other "elephant in the room" is how this effects RETURNS.
As it is, buyers are right %101 of the time - and most times they ignore what the listings say.
So, what happens NOW, when they cant even see it and returns increase?
Do all sellers have to change to NO RETURNS? Will eBay create a NEW category for these kinds of returns ... "didnt have access to the whole listing"?
I understand WHY eBay is doing this "mobile phone screen real estate" ... but AGAIN .. when something goes wrong .. and it will - will eBay blame the seller or will they shoulder the responsibility since its eBay who created this monster?
06-27-2017 01:19 AM
The worst thing is that clicking on the dreaded button doesn't show any pictures, just text!!! I had nice big clear pictures of the item in my description, and the page after the clicking the buttons didn't show them at all! Are they crazy or what????
06-28-2017 10:04 AM
It is so unbelievable stupid from the seller's and buyer's point-of-view. Why can anybody implement such nonsense? What's wrong with ebay??
06-28-2017 10:07 AM
Delusional is a better description........
06-28-2017 10:32 AM
@Anonymous Yes, that update told us about the shortened "mobile friendly" descriptions but said nothing about the whole description field vanishing and being replaced by a "see full description" button.
