Their glorious first world postage system does not track small international tracked and signed for letters/packages and you will be out of your product and money thanks to ebay and paypal policy if the buyers opens an Item not received case.. Sending anything that starts with RR and similar is pointless.
Just went against my better judgement and sent something there thinking that "meh it will be fine this time", but of course it didn't.
Shipping cost me $25 from Norway btw.
This is just to create awareness of the issue of sending to Canada.

I do know that the official excuse from the Canadian postal service is the "high cost associated with tracking because of packages from China" or similar, which quite frankly is beyond criminal in this digitized age of ours, but it is entirely expected from a socialist nation that is mismanaging its resources. I say this because i can see the contours of the same type of idiotic policies being implemented here as well by our completely incompetent government.
That is all.
ps: if i lose money at least I'm gonna rant about it.

Names of services can differ in meaning from country to country. Always check that your selected service has on-line tracking in the destination country.
I am in the US and work for USPS. Here "registered" is a very slow but secure method usually used for very important documents, barer bonds and other critical high value items. Registered Mail and Registered Mail Restricted Delivery? There is no estimated delivery time for Registered Mail, regardless of class. Registered Mail is kept highly secured and is processed manually, which naturally slows the speed at which it travels. It also may or may not have on-line proof of delivery on a international scale, this is depending on the country of origins system.
Granted that most country's tag the word registered on any package that gets tracked. Being in the US I really don't know a lot about the systems in Canada or Norway. But what I do when shipping internationally I ask what are my shipping options with on-line viewable tracking to the destination address and not just to the destination country.

I should add that i never have any problems with missing packages except in instances where there is a loophole where the buyer can defraud me out of my product.
I'm sure this is being exploited massively in Canada.

I doubt if the problem only exists in Canada........ Here in the US, I think most of us would say never mail anything without tracking unless you are prepared to lose it and refund. Many do mail without it, but only on inexpensive items in which they have budgeted in their possible losses........

Yes that is a given, but i did send it with tracking. The problem is that the Canadian postal service does not scan registered packages even from other western countries because supposedly the subsidized packages from china was such a huge problem for their workload.
Canada does not scan registered letters/small packets. You can of course send with tracking, but in the end it does not matter since they treat all the post as regular letters/small packages without tracking which enables buyers to just open up an "inr" and get an automatic refund from the buyers account courtesy of the generous ebay/paypal system.
USPS for instance tracks shipments like these, same with the Russian postal service which today is excellent might i add, heck even the Baltic countries have better routines than Canada post.
Point is that this is something that needs to be spoken about. Sellers need to safeguard themselves from this potential abuse and I'm sure ebay and payupppal does not do so in any way.
tl:dr if you live in Europe and are thinking about sending small packages to Canada then don't.

Seeing as half of my family is Canadian, perhaps a little more research into the country would be nice before you start calling it names.
It is a cost benefit thing. Yes, it might cost you more in losses, but it does not cost Canadians more. Sort of think that is smart on the Canadian side, like why waste their money.
12-06-2019 07:16 AM
Calling it names? You are offended that i am notifying other sellers that the Canadian postal service does not track registered packages from abroad?
Are you offended for the sake of being offended or something because nothing in your post makes any sense.
Yes of course it doesn't cost Canadians more, but sellers who ship to Canada will obviously be defrauded out of their product more often because of the incompetence of the Canadian postal service.
12-06-2019 07:51 AM
No, I am not offended.
So Canadians are suppose to raise their postal rates so that International shippers do not get ripped off?
I stopped selling to Europe, not because of the tracking, but because if the high number of SNAD which require me to pay for return shipping. It is most often a free fabric grab. Overseas shipping is a risk. You have to weigh the benefits as to whether it works for you. I also have tracking issues in certain European countries, despite the wonderful postal service.
Warning people in a straight forward way is one thing, the rant is not necessary.

oooops, sorry, misread your lst post...........
I would wonder why YOUR Post office is accepting payment for a service that Canada doesn't render? Sure don't know much about international shipping, but it seems like you should be forewarned.

Sorry, it is trackable but you have to get your post office to contact Canada Post to track it as it is not trackable on line.

I can confirm that any international postage labeled as a letter (which usually starts with LJ) either isn't reliable with tracking or it is totally non-existent when it leaves the US.
If you need tracking to show delivered, you might have a better chance of buying the postage as a package/parcel. It costs more and usually the tracking starts with UA.

This is already well-known @numisnorway for years now.

Similar for Canada.

Yeah i know it has been known a few years. I just wanted to refresh the memory and warn others so they don't make the same mistake.
ebay and paypal should inform their clients about this issue since it is a massive security flaw.

Ebay and Paypal have nothing to do with it.
It is up to you as the seller and shipper to know what is needed to protect yourself.
International mail is not one of them!
