Does it ever end?

I sold a computer water cooling reservoir to someone in MAY.  Now he says it's leaking.  I would say...not my problem.  He's had it for two months.  I have no clue if he's taken it apart since he's had it.  I would hope that after two months, I can say not my problem.  I'll be glad to help since he's local, but not for free.  He's totally clueless when it comes to water-cooling a computer.  I know that I can't go back to where I bought it after two months and complain.  They would tell me contact the manufacturer.

Your married to any transaction paid for with paypal for 6 months if they file a claim you'll have to refund....

Well he cannot file a claim with ebay as he is a month too late.

 

He can file with paypal but he would have to pay return shipping.

 

Just tell him to contact the manufacturer or maintenance.

Oh...come on.  You name me one company that must accept returns after two months...Paypal or not., yet alone 6 months.   How do I know what he did with that part in the last two months?  There is no business out there that will give you a six month guarantee on anything unless you pay for it up front or they offer a year's warranty and every one of those warranty's don't cover user damage.  That's like someone buying a pair of walking shoes, walking 5 miles a day and then complaining two months later the shoes are worn out after using them for 300 miles.   After 30 days or less, the places I buy from say it broke...too bad.  Here's the manufacturer's contact info.  You deal with them on the warranty.  I'll be damned if I give a refund.

Tell him sorry but after 30 days , you cannot do anything.  Next go ahead and block that buyer and start praying that he doesn't read these boards and open up a claim in paypal or do a chargeback on their credit card.

Not necessarily what you sel but many stores have very liberal returns.

 

But there are 32 stores listed if you google that accept lifetime (or limited) guarantees.

 

And if you pay with an Amex, you have a year to return it.

Correct. Ebay is the new Costco. Too bad sellers can't charge a membership fee.  😉

Nordstrom, LLBean, etc.  No membership required.

Yes. Quite a few companies can have lifetime guarantees.  Fine print in those statements, though, can include voiding that guarantee if their product IS NOT bought directly from them.  The "lifetime guarantee" DOES NOT transfer.

 

Of course, ebay/Paypal are all inclusive, sole ownership rights holders in anything and everything ever created by man!!  EVER!!

You name me one company that must accept returns after two months..

 

Both Home Depot and another national co. (can't remember which) both mailed me return labels for purchases........each item had a # of days in which to return it......all were 90 days.

Fred Meyer / Kroger has a 90 day return policy. So, yeah. There you go. Good luck with not refunding.

You can.  Not in those words, of course.  

 

Amazing how some folks here are so quick to jump from complaint to immediate refund, no questions asked, sure, here's your full amount paid plus an additional 20% on top for all your troubles, oh please oh please........

 

It's all in the fine print, a detail lost on many.  There is a RETURN process that might NOT lead to a refund!!  Would suggest boning up on it.

Curious:  If you're local, and can help, why wouldn't you?  Is this a problem that will take a lot of your time?  I'm just thinking if there's the possibility your customer will go to Paypal to try'n get a refund, it may be cheaper for you in the long run to lend a hand, free of charge, if you're able.  

 

Plus, you'll look like the Patron Saint Of Water-Cooled Computers, and likely earn the love and respect of not only your customer, but everyone that customer knows that ever has computer needs.  😉

Have you checked the chargeback policy of your personal credit card lately?

It seems to depend on the exact contract but many of those cc policies for adults with decent credit ratings and good payment records allow for 180 day chargebacks.

And those do not necessarily involve a return, as Paypal does, paid by the buyer.

 

Stores are different. A shopper in a B&M store has the opportunity to inspect the item before purchase and a shorter return period is reasonable.

Even there, the cc company may override the shop's policy.
