Do you ever suggest things to sellers or point out errors in their listing?

An experienced  seller with over 200,000 feedback has a item listed.

It comes in three different colors.

In the item description he has:

"If you don't indicate what color you want a random color will be sent".

Isn't that just asking for trouble?

Why not make it a variations listing?

On the same listing I also noticed a misspelled word in the title.

He has "borad" instead of "board".

As a fellow seller I feel like messaging the seller and pointing these things out ... or is that too nosey/pushy?

If you are a long-term customer who has bought numerous items, then maybe it would be helpful to mention what you see to them. If you are going through listings to find people's mistakes, it might be best just to move on. It is their business not yours. Did they ask for your unsolicited advice? Every person is different some may tell you to stick it where the sun will never shine while others may tell you to buzz off or thank you for pointing out their mistake. Considering there is a percentage of people who are always right, know more than anyone else and always blame others for their failures, might be best to keep your thoughts to oneself.

Thanks Richard.  I'm going to look in to that slash thing.

Have discovered that some sellers appreciate it, others will jump all over you, so, unless it's something I want to buy, I just let it go.

When someone asks a question here about their listings, however, I will look at them to see what the issue might be that's causing their lack of sales.  After all, they asked.

Did not read yet, so sorry if I am duplicating.

I know that there a couple of people here that read every word, and they will point out when I screw something up.   I for one, REALLY APPRECATE it. I know my speiling and grammar aint good. ;-).  I rely very much on spell check, which we know does not always fix stuff. Also, sometimes I just BRAKE stuff.  Like del' the wrong shipping policy. hehehe.   So no, I don't feel like folks have butted in.  I feel like someone is looking after me. I am not all alone.

Not making excuses. just explaining. I am dyslexic.  I didn't learn to read and spell like most folks.

Just my two cents.

You Should Point It Out To The Seller, Because Randomly Choosing A Color Will Give Them Major Trouble, The Spelling Thing Is Probably Just A Normal Mistake Hit The Wrong Key

I wouldn't. I used to look for tea and white pepper and see a whole lot of listings with mistakes and trying to be helpful I would tell the seller that buyers can't pay with Payoneer or you can't say payment only by PayPal, to check out the accepted payments policy here and they would thank me sometimes but usually not and they NEVER revised their listings. NEVER!

The same is largely true of the people who come here with "All my sales died" threads. People point out things like a specific DVD or Doll they have for sale at 2-3 times the going rate, a going rate at which the item is still a very slow mover. When they come back and post another similar thread a month later that same doll or DVD that everyone discussed is still at the same price.

I wouldn't even respond to those help threads if it wasn't for the occasional private message I get that says something like "I did what you said and started getting sales immediately, thank you so much", which really helps balance out the other 95 percent that act offended, change nothing and sell nothing.  Usually re-affirming their claims that that 11.99 plus shipping used DVD would sell even though there is a seller at $5.99 shipped with quantity for the same title new, if only ebay wasn't hiding their listings and favoring large sellers.

Re: Do you ever suggest things to sellers or point out errors in their listing?

If it was a case of a spelling error or an error in grammar, I would get nothing else done all day long but correct others!  I have messaged sellers when an item I am looking at it listed as a checkbook cover but they have a mask pictured.  As a seller, I know it was a sell similar error.  She was very thankful that I messaged her.

I once bought a book at a VERY cheap price from a collectible author because the seller spelled the author's last name wrong.

I think it's ok, but I've only done it once.  It has been done to me though and I thanked the person. I had an old Pasadena print for sale and identified it by the label on the bottom.  A lawyer from Pasadena said it was labeled wrong and it was a court or something.  I corrected it and sold it within hours to the state bar assn.

Re: Do you ever suggest things to sellers or point out errors in their listing?

I do occasionally when I see they have made a obvious serious listing mistake because I sure like it when someone tells me when I have made a listing mistake.

I however do not say anything when they do things that I consider wrong on purpose like putting a picture of three widgets when you are selling one.

Many people, over the years, have helped me and pointed out my mistakes. I'm always appreciative because I believe that people are advising with good intentions. These suggestions have helped me sell more than a few items and probably prevented some returns.

Re: Do you ever suggest things to sellers or point out errors in their listing?

Helping people who made a mistake  - We have found that 99% say thanks.

Helping people who made a mistake and don't think they need help - there is this one guy who has been trying to sell what he calls 'an odd light bulb' and uses the manufacturer name in the title - but it is really a rare 'resister tube' that was used in those old room size computers. I pointed this out to him when I first found his when checking out ours, back in 2015? - No reply or change to listing.

Pointed it out again a year later using a different ID, adding the item number and photos of the one we had just sold for $60 plus. Again no reply or change to listing. After that it became a sort of game, we have since told him three more times using our other IDs. Twice pointing it out, seller to seller, once as a 'maybe buyer' - Even told him to check out the story on google that had a photo of it [really them].

It's still up for sale, under lamp parts, seven years later. There is a part of me that wants to buy his and resell, then sending him a link to the listing after it sells for fifty plus.

Re: Do you ever suggest things to sellers or point out errors in their listing?

I would probably leave that one alone.

I welcome messages that I have a wrong photo,  something identified wrong and so on. Things like that are big mistakes and I want to correct them.

On the other hand, I have gotten messages that I have something wrong and the message sender is wrong, but that is a different ball game

As a seller with 200,000 feedback I suspect if that listing were "trouble" he would have changed it by now.

Hi @inhawaii

“I hope you don’t mind the intrusion … but I thought you might want to know that your photograph is of the ‘Manhattan Bridge’ and NOT  the ‘Brooklyn Bridge’.  Happy Holidays!”

That is how I generally contact a seller if I feel inclined to point out an error in a listing that I’m not interested in buying.

I haven’t received a negative response … yet.

[BTW, they added ‘Manhattan Bridge’ to the Title … but left ‘Brooklyn Bridge’ in as well … I assume to get more hits.  Who searches for a photo of ‘The Manhattan Bridge’?  LOL ]

Unsolicited comments are generally unwelcome.
