Do I accept return for this?

This is a first … had INAD opened for wrong measurements … but jeans buyer shows in photo are NOT what she bought. Buyer already received/left positive feedback for me a week and half-ish ago for jeans she did buy. I’ve tried reaching out to her about this with no response. Do I just okay this return (I have 30 day free returns) and just expect to get back this pair of jeans that were not mine in the first place?!? I’m guessing yes … pretty crappy to get INAD for someone else’s item! 😩

That was my first thought. I reached out to her about this, asking if maybe she had me mixed up with another seller … have yet to hear back.

You have your buyer's number in your Order Details. This might be one time when a phone call will work better than a message.

Ahh … okay … so just because she started an INAD, even if she never follows through with this return (never sends anything back, not even an empty box) it will still show up against my metrics. Well that’s a bunch of  <insert words we can not use here> lol

Re: Do I accept return for this?

Yes, @kickin.assets .  Many feel this is a bunch of BLEEP....Doesn't matter what we think.   Historically speaking, eBay has handed out lots of garbage to sellers over the years.  Sellers just buckled up and complied so I would assume this falls under that umbrella and eBay is counting on the same behavior.

eBay is getting rather "pushy" in other areas though.  They are no longer the ONLY PLACE on the net that gets sales, but they seem to ignore that fact when it suits them and are counting on people still thinking that eBay is the one and only, and continued seller compliance.

I took ALL my eggs out of the eBay selling basket a few years back.  I still sell other places, and do as well as I would like, and never looked back to the day of my "divorce" with any sort of regret.  LOL.

Good luck.

Re: Do I accept return for this?

I would look at the feedback she has left other sellers and see if you see any red flags. This may clue you into whether this is a genuine mistake or she is running a scam. It is odd she left positive feedback, and that makes me think she has mixed things up. I am not a buyer that wants a call from a seller, but if I were the buyer in this case, I would want the seller to call me to verify. You've already got the positive feedback and you know you are going to have to accept the return if she sends them, might as well do your best to mitigate the latter.

Re: Do I accept return for this?

If you get back the jeans that were NOT yours, contact eBay by phone.  Let them know and I would say they will stand behind you for seller protections and will end up refunding the buyer and you will get to keep the money also.

Re: Do I accept return for this?

@christworks

Buyer has no suspicious feedback that I could tell and a call may be needed.

She is a repeat buyer who has bought from me a couple times now and why it really took me by surprise and also why I believe it was done by mistake … but since my message to her about this has gone unanswered, as @a_c_green mentioned earlier and now you, a call tomorrow couldn’t hurt.

With all that said though, seems the damage is done … finding out that even if she doesn’t follow through with this return, I will still have a defect. Thats just not right. 🫤

Re: Do I accept return for this?

A refund...yes.

Do you want a return which you can't maybe sell again?...can you yourself wear them?

An answer to both as a 'no'...I wouldn't pay for a return...hard to swallow but that's what I would do.

And block buyer and move on...not leaving any feedback to a response to the buyer.

Responses to feedbacks I don't leave if there was a problem.

With artificial intelligence we know the 'lights are not on'...LOL

@12345jamesstamps

This is honestly the best way to handle the fiasco as it’s already a defect no matter how this return goes and it really looks like I’d be getting something back that’s not worth my time nor can I count on seller protections. At one time, I would’ve been near 100% sure eBay would make this right. Now? 1/100th of a percent. Agreed … lights are not on! Lol

Buyer has already left me positive feedback a week and a half ago-ish … so no worries there!

Thank you!!

Re: Do I accept return for this?

@kickin.assets

I don't know whether your return requests are accepted automatically.

In any case, I'd send the buyer this message:

"Dear buyer,

I received your "not as described" return request and if you feel the need, the return is or will be accepted.

However I think you made a mistake.

Your pictures of the NAD item show LEI jeans. Your purchase from me was a pair of Silver jeans, item number 256974239334, delivered to you on (date). You even left positive feedback for me.

Please check your records to see if you erred.

Sincerely,

Seller

Re: Do I accept return for this?

@albertabrightalberta

Yes, my returns are automatically accepted unless it falls outside the 30 days, which has actually happened a few times. When I started the post, I failed to word it correctly. INAD is always automatically accepted, and I knew that. So why I asked about accepting it, who knows?! Lol! It’s been a day! 🤣

Very well worded message! I’m sleeping on what I will do first thing in the morning, as this post has shown; I’m obviously a little off today. A couple really great suggestions to work with here.

Thank you!!

I agree it isn't right you'd have to keep what may amount to an unearned defect. Now that you mention she is a repeat buyer, all the more reason to give her a call. I'd even play up that you wanted to personally call her because she has purchased from you before and you are terribly concerned that there has been a misunderstanding. I cannot imagine she is scamming based on everything you've said. In case you are thinking it, I would not mention to her about defect on your account. She can't do anything about it and there is no need to make her feel bad. Just get things cleared up and retain that customer for future business.

If it makes you feel better there was a USPS tracking number glitch similar to the one that impacted some people a few weeks ago. I had three old tracking numbers of mine suddenly become activated again months later. I was unaware of it until the late shipment defects showed up on my account. It looked as if I was three months or more late shipping a couple of orders and, of course, they arrived late. It was irrelevant that the tracking numbers regenerated across the country and were delivered to addresses far away from my buyers. I got charged AGAIN for those labels. eBay reimbursed the charges, but I was past the deadline to appeal the defects and nothing could be done.

Re: Do I accept return for this?

I wouldn't be surprised if the return just times out. In my experience some buyers realise they've made a really stupid mistake but are too embarrassed to actually acknowledge it.
