I sold an item. The buyer wanted a refund. I did not misrepresent the item. eBay did not take the time to review and show me why I should refund the item. eBay decided to refund the item and take funds from my account without my approval. If I had made any misrepresentations I would have gladly given a refund. It is eBay policy to refund...it is stated that I do not take returns. eBay does not protect the interest of sellers. No wonder "eBay is Dead and Failing Miserably According to Business Week". I can look for other selling and buying resources.
I am very disappointed in eBay. I hope eBay soon realizes that with sellers, they have no buyers. Maybe it is too late.

Did the buyer open a return request which you refused? I have "No Returns" on all my listings. Like most sellers here, I accept all returns regardless of what I say. For me the the "No Returns" is like having a sign that says "Beware of the big bad dog" when I have no dog. It is meant to discourage frivolous returns. That said, I accept returns for any reason. No questions asked. I send a label and say send it back. Some do. Some never do.

Ebay doesn't review anything, it's all done automatically via the system. a NAD will automatically generate a return and a label even if you don't take returns.
Good luck to you though. Sigh..... I feel your pain.

That exact thing just happened to me as well, We sell decals and after we dropped off at the post office and marked as shipped they buyer opened a request saying "changed my mind" eBay now wants me to refund the buyers money but I flat out refuse! This conversation will be locked or deleted by eBay so other sellers don't see the problems that are going on.

No, unless it somehow violates Khoros's rules (no name calling, etc.) no one is going to delete this thread or posts because it's no secret that the situation with CS and returns is a hot mess, and it's discussed here all the time.

You would not have been disappointed had you read the terms you agreed to follow that eBay requires of its sellers.

I know as a new seller, learning this hard truth is more than difficult. But because this is disappointing to you does not mean Ebay is "Dead and Failing". All you have to do is review their Financial Statements, which are public info, just Google them, to find out this is not true.
Could eBay be doing better and do we want Ebay to do better, you are absolutely right on that. Not just is bring buyers to the site that will purchase but with a much better return system as our current system has been failing Sellers since 2018 when Simplified Returns started.
Below is a link to the Money Back Guarantee [MBG]. As a seller you really need to know and understand this policy front and back. Don't assume you know it, read it and re-read it until it becomes something you can repeat without having it in front of you.
eBay Money Back Guarantee policy
Another thing you need to remember is NEVER willingly give Ebay the opportunity to step in and decide a case for Request for a Return. They can only do that if you allow it and do not allow your buyer to return the item. A seller has 3 days to respond to the buyer. If you don't do that or if you try to deny the claim, the next day there will be an option on that claim that the buyer can check off to have Ebay step in if they want. Once they do that, Ebay will do exactly what they did to you. They will force you to refund the buyer. Sometimes they may have the buyer return the item but sometimes they may not. And when Ebay has to step in, they do NOT refund you the FVFs you paid on the transaction even though you were made to refund it.
Then to add insult to injury on your Seller Dashboard you will find a Defect for not resolving this claim without Ebay intervention. That can damage the health of your selling account. You don't want that.
