Did you mean:

Dilemma , either way, Iose.

I sold as baseball cap, pre owned in very good condition for $39, it looked unused. I just got this message from the buyer..."Thank you I just received the hat and it’s great. It has an issue. The Velcro back has come apart see picture. Please let me know how to proceed" . He sent me one tiny photo of the back strap that is falling apart. The hat had no issues and you can even see in my photos that there was no damage. I have a close up of the strap.  I asked for more photos with the surrounding area. I thought I might offer him a partial refund because that seems like what he is insinuating. If I just ask him to return for a full refund, I'm going to get back a damaged hat. Seems like I lose either way.

If it was coming apart when you sent it then obviously it will be "damaged" when it's returned.

If there was a minor problem with the Velcro tab when you listed it then you should have mentioned it in the listing. I "think" I can see the issue in the pics but that is only because I know what and where I need to look. When an item is described as "Very good pre-owned condition. No odors or stains. Appears unused." I wouldn't think that I need to examine it for this type of issue.

If it were me I would apologize for my oversight and try to placate the buyer with a partial. Paying shipping both ways, describing it accurately, waiting for another buyer, probably not getting the same price again means that taking a return isn't likely a winning strategy.

Or offer to accept the return for full refund and hope the buyer decides they would rather keep it as it is. The latter is a bit of a gamble.

Your choice. Does the damage look believable?

I don’t mind partials, myself, but I’d want better pictures. And it has to be logical - who wants something they claim is destroyed or non-repairable?

Thread can rot, so I’m curious if he’s saying it ARRIVED that way or is he saying he adjusted the Velcro and the straps or the sewing on the Velcro came apart?

I pretty much always roll with the "latter".  Too many buyers fishing these days for partials or instant refunds without returning the item.

Sorry you are not pleased with your purchase. Please return for a full refund.

This has worked with the last 3 return requests.

The last one opened a return with eBay and asked me to send a "free return label". I told her the return label was available within the eBay return that she opened. Never heard back from her and I closed the return after 5 business days. (She knew where the return label was located, she was just fishing)

op, I see a problem with that Velcro tab too, the stitching on the left of the tab looks very loose and kind of puckered, with hanging threads. Im sure you just didnt notice it. I dont believe in partials, but that may be the less painful way for you to go with this.

There was no damage at all on the hat. My listing also had a close up of the back strap, as well as the rest of the hat.  I don't know what you read, it was not coming apart when I listed the hat so what should I have mentioned? I have nothing to apologize for.

Thanks, I did ask for a few more photos. The tiny one he sent is just of a piece of the strap.

The velcro can be reattached with iron on tape and a hot iron. Or it can be restitched by hand.

Given the price for a used cap, I have to assume this is some sort of collectible item.

Most collectors expect perfection. No matter what they collect.

I dislike partials, but depending on how much time and money you have sunk into this, your choices are  either a partial based on (claimed) condition or "return for refund" with all the delays and costs that includes.

How long has it been since delivery?

Thanks, I did look at the my photo again and I do see that loose thread. That's not where the buyer said the damage is. The end of the strap looks like a dog was chewing on it.  I don't know if I'm allowed to post his photo on here.

I've bought caps at yard sales and they look ok until I check the straps and pull them apart and the velcro straps would come apart, so it's possible.

I would have them return it for a refund.

Have a great day.

Sure you can post it, tho that left side of the tab does have loose stitching..but if thats not the problem..good!

Yeah, but we’re all human. I’m over the top picky - it has to basically look like no one wore it, or if it has a bit of a used look I over describe any issues.

Yet I shipped off a dress some time back that had a rusty staple and some pink staining in the sleeve. Sure was off my mark the day I handled that dress!!!!

So, it happens.
