On my selling account, I sold an item to a buyer and attempted four times to reach the person and never got any sort of communication from them regarding the item so I canceled. Literally a few hours after I canceled I get the whole “oh my goodness I can’t believe I missed it I’ll pay now…“ to which I didn’t reply. I made the mistake of not blocking them and I did relist the item. I should’ve blocked them. Now they have gone and re-bid on the item. Would you cancel their bids and block them or just let it go? In 15 years I’ve never come across the situation, usually either I block the person or they aren’t goofy enough to attempt to purchase the item again. As experienced sellers, what would you all do? Thanks!

They apologised and obviously want the item. This isn't hard - if they win, just ship.

Why were you attempting to reach the buyer?
I can't exactly why you needed to cancel. Can you share that information?
With the information you have shared, can't give you an answer.
Did this person pay within 4 days or not?
If you plan to sell here, you really need to read the MBG.

"attempted four times to reach the person and never got any sort of communication from them regarding the item"
Why did you make all these contacts?
Did the buyer fail to pay for the item, so you canceled based on "Buyer didn't pay"?? Or did you cancel just because they didn't reply to you?

In the past, I would just wait until eBay informed me that they tried to contact the buyer to pay at the end of the payment window of time.
When that happened, I would try to contact the buyer and ask if they changed their mind. If I did not hear back from them in a week. I would cancel the order.
I think I had one buyer that contacted me after I cancelled the order to say something similar to yours. He bid on the new listing and had to pay a higher amount as he was against another bidder. He paid promptly after he won the second time.
Hopefully, that will be your situation as well.

The buyer says he wanted the item but forgot to pay, and contacted you to say he still wanted to pay.
If the buyer wanted the item, why would it be "goofy" for them to buy it again?
In fact, one could argue it would be goofy of them NOT to buy it again.

Sorry, I guess I need to clarify. The buyer was a low feedback buyer – they had less than 50 feedback. In my experience these people have less to lose than someone who has built up a good feedback. I first sent an invoice. And so after the second day, I send a nice little pay reminder- The bottled one that eBay has saying “hey I can’t ship until I receive payment, when can I expect payment?” The third I send is saying that I really appreciate your business but if I don’t get payment or communication by this time then the item will be canceled. So I guess really only three, however eBay does send their own little notifications apparently. In my experience, if I don’t get any communication from them with these kind of notifications then I’m just not gonna get any payment. And if I do get communication, I’ll give them as much time as they need - it’s not about the money, it’s about the respect and letting me know something. So not focusing on how I was communicating with them, more focusing on what should I do at this point? Cancel or let it go?

Well I guess I'd have a difference of an opinion of a under 50 (48?) feedback being a low feedback buyer. I am usually pretty comfortable with them by that point. My cutoff is usually under somewhere around 10.
Did you wait the full four days and the full process to go before you reposted the sale? I guess that is the defining factor in this whole debate and the question that hasn't been answered.

In my experience, I don't send invoices (which can bite you in the butt on postage) or requests to pay. I seldom use auction format, but when I do, I wait the ebay time frame and then I would use the process to cancel for non-payment if need be. I'm still not sure of your timing or if you used the proper process to cancel for non-payment.

He says he canceled the sale, so obvious it didn't go to NPB process.......
You go a mea culpa from the buyer, so I would let it ride......not cancel the bid......people make mistakes.........

Unpaid item claim is now a type of cancellation. The OP hasn't explained the reason that he chose for the cancellation.

@kerbel1They might have their ebay account setup so that they don't receive ebay messages on their email. Many buyers are casual ebay users and aren't signing onto ebay everyday like many sellers do, so it's plausible that they missed/didn't see reminders. The owner here does the purchasing on ebay and often forgets to complete purchases, even when I remind her verbally an on emails.
As for the feedback being low, every buyer has to start somewhere. I do check their feedback that they have received and left for others. This gives me a better picture of what type of user they are.
I will send 1 reminder after 2 days of nonpayment asking the buyer if they prefer to cancel so they can avoid an unpaid item strike. If they don't answer, I just let the sale time out and ebay automatically refunds the sale to us.

Wrong. I waited the required time, and canceled on the 5th day. Relisted a week later.

I guess you guys aren’t getting the big picture - I canceled because the buyer did not pay. I sent three different communications trying to get them to pay. They did not pay nor did they respond to the communications. Now they have bid on my item again.

I understand this but the feedback did not show any issues. I think they single me out, lol.
