Didn’t block, now what?

On my selling account, I sold an item to a buyer and attempted four times to reach the person and never got any sort of communication from them regarding the item so I canceled. Literally a few hours after I canceled I get the whole “oh my goodness I can’t believe I missed it I’ll pay now…“ to which I didn’t reply. I made the mistake of not blocking them and I did relist the item. I should’ve blocked them. Now they have gone and re-bid on the item. Would you cancel their bids and block them or just let it go? In 15 years I’ve never come across the situation, usually either I block the person or they aren’t goofy enough to attempt to purchase the item again. As experienced sellers, what would you all do? Thanks!

I had this happen a couple of times when I did auctions and it was fine.

Also, to my shame, I once also forgot to pay for a win as a buyer.  I simply bid on so very few auctions anymore and was working horrible long hours, and the payment window slipped away.  Man, I was so red faced and sorry - I paid instantly next time and certainly didn't hold anything against the seller because I goofed.  I was actually grateful that I could bid again.  Now I put a calendar alert on anything like that.

eBay forums seems to be a channel for other sellers to attack a good seller even when they have done the right thing.

Don't take my earlier reply as an "attack." I was simply fishing for more details. There are a lot of "good sellers" on here that come here for advice but give minimal details and sometimes it is like pulling teeth to get the details out of them.

Sometimes we realize we ARE dealing with a "good seller." Sometimes we quickly figure out we have a "Not so good seller."

Personally, given the rest of the details, I'd let the sale go and hope for the best.

Anyway...good luck.

Re: Didn’t block, now what?

When you say that the feedback "didn't show any issues", you do know that the buyers cannot receive anything except positive feedback, right?

Re: Didn’t block, now what?

Personally if I have to cancel a transaction for nonpayment my buyers would never get another chance because I add them to my block list.  However if you are considering selling to them because you believe their nonpayment was just an oversight I would look at their buying history and feedback they have left for sellers before deciding.

Thanks Mike, I do try to stay professional, even in the most challenging of cases. It has served me well so far.

Re: Didn’t block, now what?

I seem to get buyers that have stellar fb - “lightning fast” or something to the effect of how wuick they are, and they literally wait the entire 4 days to pay- obviously they know the game. It happens to me all the time. Don’t know if it is a canned fb or what, but it is strange. Had a buyer this week with literally over 10k feedback (seller themselves) wouldn’t pay. Tsk, tsk. They should know better.

Re: Didn’t block, now what?

Usually I do block them, or like I said, they just don’t bid again (shame is a powerful motivator to stay away). Hopefully she will follow through this time and not bite me in the rump.

Re: Didn’t block, now what?

I would leave it alone & ship if they win it.

A lot of energy spent on here.  50 is not low FB.   There has been no need to contact buyers for payment for many years.   There is no 'game' involved in people waiting to pay.   These things tend to happen with auctions.  You obviously choose to do auctions for a reason.  It goes with the territory.  Otherwise you could do FP with IPR & all these issues & 'games' would go away.

Even if I still did auctions, I would not waste my time contacting people.  But that's just me.
