Friends,
I agree about low sales!! I have several friends who have mentioned this to me.
I have tried to step back and look at the bigger picture at eBay and this is what I have come with.
Anybody that has a store will remember when promoted listed into affect this past year. This was a way of boosting sales and moving items up the LISTING LADDER for greater amount of views. This feature not only gained greater views but also allowed eBay to dip there finger into your profits. I believe this was the starting of the bigger picture. Now that we are no long able to control our inventory listing time it has become more of a challenge to review our sales and items at the end of any given 30 day cycle. We as sellers were able to review our adds update & do changes and even decide if we wanted to continue on with the listing of the item. No we are forced to to let our item s run to the bottom of the listing items or pursue the Promoted listing to gain more visibility and allow eBay to dip into the profit of our sales.
If we have a decrease in out sales eBay is having a decrease in there wallet also..
Maybe they need to review and go back and restore what was working and not worry about what everyone else in the market is doing....
They need to be BOLD AND INVENTIVE NOT COWARD TO WHAT THE OTHERS IN THE MARKET IS DOING.
SET THEMSELVES APART AND MOVE FORWARD TO HELP THERE SELLERS NOT DISCOURAGE US!!!
If this post does not post I am getting a Authentication failed error from eBay. Also a Authentication Ticket Mismatched, failed authen

I noticed this too. My sales have absolutely tanked. In 2 months I have not sold a single item. I used to sell 3 to 5 times per week! Ever since this stupid Good til cancelled **bleep** it was all good. I now get more people "watching" than ever before but if they watch and don't buy what's the point.

Of course we can cancel it but we have to remember to do it before it automatically relists and waste one of the 50 free insertions. Everyone apparently has decreased sales so that speaks volumes. Ebay has never been on "our" side and this is further proof they don't care about sellers..
Theres no point to take pictures, write detailed descriptions and the whole 9 yards just to never sell.

Normally after a few bid-less auctions I'd take the item and make it a BIN with best offer, and then it would sell, but I'm not going to mess with this GTC claptrap. Now I have nothing listed except for a camera case, and won't bother to relist anything, although I may attempt to put some new items on, since it's 95 degrees here and I don't feel like doing much else.
What kills me is when I list something, let's say a sterling teaspoon, and based on a sold listing search, it should sell, because the same spoon has sold a dozen times before (and in recent months) for MORE than I'm asking, and it still doesn't sell. I don't get it. I've seen that complaint before on this forum, so at least I know it's not me.
I see the same thing with the watchers . Some of my listings gather up to 5 , 6 , 7 watchers for weeks but never sell . Then other things with no watchers will sell just out of the blue . I've been perplexed by all this but then I think about my own watch list that's probably about 5 or 6 pages by now . I'll bet there's a few sellers wondering what I'm doing . Tulips

Ebay is over. The younger generation has so many other options these days and Ebay is a complicated mess and is always dipping your hands in your pockets.
I mean lets face it, you have Ebay, where you pay tons of fees, can't easily communicate with the other person, etc
Then you have FB Marketplace, full of the younger generation, can send someone an instant messages, work out the details, and its all free.
Which one is more appealing?
Ebay is a neverending series of mishaps, policy changes, money grabs and terrible leadership. Ebay is a ghostland, god help the people that still try to use this archaic place for income

If you list a similar item based on how a item sold in the past and it gets no attention then perhaps the item did not sell by a normal search result. Perhaps it sold as a promoted listing that was promoted internally by ebay or externally through social media. So for the silver spoon that has not sold and gotten little attention perhaps you should promote it. First open a campaign to see what the trending ad rate would be for the item but do not complete the campaign. Then edit the item and raise the price by percentage to cover the add rate. Then go back create a campaign with the trending add rate. Ebay has made multiple changes to clutter the search results making it harder for buyers to find items they want on ebay so they will have to search off site. This is being done to create a demand for promoting listings through social media. While it is not right and quite ironic that ebay a site for buying items can no longer be used for searching for the items being sold on their site. If you continue to resist and do nothing you make no money. Its hard to believe that raising prices causing inflation would actually work but try a few items and you may find like me it is worth it.

2 more just sold that have sat static for over a year. So far about 1 /4 of my sales have been through promoting nit only does it give a boost in sales the items that do not sell through it I get the extra money that I raised the price to cover the ad fees if the item sells through promoted listings.

I ended one today. Now I have a DEFECT for ending an auction early! I see no way to end these auctions and come out even let alone ahead. NORMALLY I'd just wait until the auction ended in 30 days then put anything not gaining interest in the flea market pile and list new stuff. Now I can't do that.
I'm also soon to lose my top seller status as NOTHING IS SELLING!
At the very LEAST the good until cancelled auctions we are forced to use should not create a defect for being ended.
My whole point in being on eBay is to sell stuff. If nothing is selling what is the point for me or for eBay?

Actually the bigger picture...
Is that 30 Day listings couldn't rely on Google traffic, in fact 30-day listings were a drain on ebay's own traffic. Sure it worked great for some time but a drain is just that and the reason why sales slowly dwindled further and further, albeit slowly over time. Then many sellers abused this listing format by going into 7 and 5 and 3-day relists merely to push their listing to the top, there was no other reason for it and now that advantage is gone so some of them are upset because the free ride gig is up.
Last but not least it costs MONEY to get traffic from Google, something like a dollar per click or more through the Adsense program... I don't believe ebay gets special consideration here, and how exactly is ebay supposed to pay for this google traffic...

The Economy... is NOT "great" for 80% of us... We struggle w/ wages or sales profits that DO NOT keep pace w/ rising costs... Property Taxes, Utilities, Fuel... And now, FOOD... The Immigration & Trade War DEBACLE mean less WORKERS to pick... Rising COSTS for FARMERS who LOST many markets, like SoyBeans... OUR TAXES did NOT 'decrease'... MANY of us got a lower tax takeout last year, a few dollars a day... Meaning NO TAX REFUNDS... In states where Property Taxes are high... WE lost TAX DEDUCTIONS... As is always with Rich People running stuff... We were LIED to... Online Sellers... CANNOT 'pass on to Buyers'... INCREASED FEES... INCREASED POSTAGE... LOSS to RETURNS... THE BUYERS don't WANT... can't... SUBSIDIZE GREED... It's NOT YOU... eBay... Sure... Made In China flooding site... Manipulated / Ineffective Search & Hidden Items... BURIED below "more items similar"... Then... IF and WHEN your Buyer FINDS you... They DO NOT want to pay WT/DIM on Postage... eBay is no longer AFFORDABLE for many Buyers... It won't get better until the TAX LAWS are changed so the MONEY isn't all SHOVELED UP to the top 20%... or, hidden off shore... Until the USPS is SUBSIDIZED to HELP our trading... LIKE CHINA... This Admin is getting rich... OFF US... We need to be thrifty... Ride it out... More & more are seeing the Truth... Hang in there !

I don't understand your post. You have auctions running good til cancelled or are you talking about fixed price listings? Did you end it because you were out of free listings? What defect did you get? The only defects I'm aware of are for out of stock cancellations or an unresolved by seller case.

I was merely trying to show you that promoted listings does indeed work. To do it you will either have to take a 5 to 7 percent lose or implement a 5 to 7 percent increase on you current inventory. If you are interested in selling and listing a few items a month then the standard 10 percent final value fee is all you will have to pay but your sales will be limited. However for every one 10 percent ebay can not make money and run the many many servers needed. After all they have costs and rather than raise the price across the board they are setting the trending ad rate to what they need for each category rather than a static final value fee that may not be enough depending on how that category is doing for that time of the year.
You already should be considering their final value fee of 10 percent when buying items. I always consider the amount I can sell a item for and the final value fee is always included so I know in advance what I will have to give ebay. If there is no money to be made or if the amount of money needed to be invested out ways the money I can make after paying ebay then I pass on that item.
Going forward you will need to plan on paying about 15 to 17 percent to ebay for most items. Even then it may be a good idea to plan on 20 percent just to cover your self incase cost do increase. In the future you will need to find better deals in order to pass on savings to buyers but for now to stay afloat you will have to start paying to have all or most items to be promoted. While I have gotten good results from raising my prices to cover the add fee in the future I will be considering the add fee when purchasing items. Over time my prices will go down but for now with my current inventory a slight inflation is a must to get the money needed to buy more items at a better price.
If you do nothing then nothing will change and you will not make any money.

I did this and I di2 get a bump in sales 2 months ago. before GTC. I have not been able to recreate that surge of sales. Now I have no sales on this site. I moved to another app and seem to be selling OK there.

Fixed price listings. If you cancel them you get a defect or at least I did on today's cancellation.
As nothing is selling for me I typically remove those listings and put up others. No problem back when listings timed out - BIG problem IMO if you cancel one when its never-ending and get a defect for doing so.

I can't figure out what defect you are talking about, but if defects were given for ending a fixed price listing then I'd be banned for life.
What defect are you seeing?
