Did you mean:

Dear ebay:

You are desperate to drive buyers in, but you forgot you are actually driving sellers away. Fact! You are forcing sellers free shipping, free returns and abuse is taking over here. Can't wait to see your numbers on your next quarter result on Wall Street. Shame on you!

Re: Dear ebay:

@flexiventures  Actually, the things you mentioned, Free Shipping, Free Returns are all choices Seller have, they are not being forced.  Granted, eBay uses those things to try and coerce Sellers to do things a certain way but at the end of the day they are choices pure and simple.  I only offer Free Shipping on light weight items that I am ready to get rid of and if they don't sell after that they are taken to the local box lot auction.

I started to test Free Returns on light weight items, for 3 months I did not see the 15% increase in sales but this month on one account I have.  In 4 months I have NOT had a return on any of the Free Return items.

As to your comment about "abuse" can you be more specific with exactly what abuse you have expereinced from eBay?

Best regards,

Re: Dear ebay:

How do you know they are driving sellers away?

People have been saying that since I've been on ebay...........2004.......and yet there are certainly more sellers and listings now than ever...........

While older sellers don't like something, they forget that new sellers coming on simply accept (or reject) what the status quo is.......

Re: Dear ebay:

As a buyer I hate free shipping. It is nearly always a rip off.

If there were no buyers, sellers would be complaining about that too.

Nine times out of ten when I see a seller "quitting" I can look at their stuff months later and they are still selling.

You can get a glimpse into the numbers right now.   Here is a forecast for the 2018 3rd quarter earnings report --  Click Here

Although the earning are forecast to be lower than wall street projected it is not down by much.  I think you will find both registered sellers and buyers will be up over the last quarter as well.  The third quarter is always a push in these areas because of new sellers and buyers preparing for the holiday shopping season.

Good Luck Selling!

When the volume of sellers and merchandise listed vastly exceed the consumption level of your buying base, losing sellers is not going to affect the numbers all that much.

My including shipping into the price saves you the onerous task of adding the shipping to the price. Neither sales tactic is a "rip off" as all the information is provided in both cases.  Your hatred is unwarranted.

Re: Dear ebay:

My hatred is due to the fact that I often buy multiples and in that case am usually greatly overpaying shipping.

Totally warranted. It's a gimmick. I can add. I learned that when I was four.

Re: Dear ebay:

Not to argue with you, but when you are buying multiples from the same seller, do you not ask him (before bidding or buying) if he will combine shipping.  He does not have to do so, but it's always worth asking about it BEFORE you bid or buy.

Driving sellers away - hardly.  There are more sellers than ever here and it is increasing daily.

With all due respect, there is transparency in one case where there is not in the other, and I believe that is what this buyer means.  Many buyers don't need or want to be saved from the "onerous" task of adding the shipping to price, they are quite capable of doing so and it only takes a few seconds.

The information is clear and transparent when the item price and shipping are separated, and buyers don't have that advantage in a free shipping listing where they can't see what the seller has added into to achieve the listed price and they may be paying more than they should that way.

Buyers may hestitate to buy free shipping items for that reason.  They may estimate what they think the shipping is, based on the price, and may pass it by if they feel they may be paying too much.  The listing by its' very nature, having shipping included in the price, may seem high as it is.

Re: Dear ebay:

You can choose whether or not you wish to offer free returns, or free shipping.

They are not forcing you to choose to offer those things.

@soh.maryl  With all due respect, there is nothing to negotiate if she is buying items with free shipping as was stated.  So yes, she is overpaying on listings that have free shipping when she buys multiples.

Re: Dear ebay:

In the case of "free" shipping, there is no way the buyer can request combined shipping to save on their shipping cost.  The seller benefits by getting full price shipping and possibly greater profit.

Another reason why buyers may choose to forego that "free" shipping listing.
