Damaged item before shipment

I sold an item that isnt damaged, but another piece of it got scratched up in storage so I sent the buyer a message and picture. So Im required to ship it by today 5pm and Im wondering what should I do if the buyer doesnt respond to the message? Should I cancel the order? because I dont want this affecting my late shipment rate in seller dashboard.

Re: Damaged item before shipment

Do know that cancelling without cause can give you a defect.

Do you have his phone number?  Can you try and call and get direction from him?

Re: Damaged item before shipment

You are not familiar with seller defects?  They can damage your account and selling privileges.

You can only cancel if buyer requested or there is a problem with the address.

I know accidents happen, but ebay holds you responsible when they feel a buyer will be disappointed when not getting the item he paid for.

I have become familiar with Sam when lurking here.  I believe she is telling you to send it anyways.  And if there is a problem he will file snad.

I feel that is putting it all on the buyer to get out of a defect

seller defect you mean negative feedback? I am aware of that, I don't want to do what sam is saying because the shipping is very expensive

Re: Damaged item before shipment

A seller non-performance cancellation results in a defect.  A few of them and you're selling abilities are in jeopardy.

Upload tracking requirements is a 3 month lookback.

Late Delivery is a year look back.

The lesser of the evils is late shipping.  However, a cancellation defect is survivable.  I broke an item while packing once and had to cancel.   It stuck with me for a year and annoyed me, but it didn't hurt my selling.

I'd wait to hear back from my buyer.  It's just as much about them as it is you.

Re: Damaged item before shipment

Negative feedback isn't a defect but not shipping is.  Defects will affect your ability to sell here.

I didn't look at your listings or items; how much is the shipping if the buyer sends it back?

I just had the exact same situation; a china widget I thought was in absolutely mint preowned condition - I probably went over it 23 times - had miniscule marks I saw when I started packing.  I immediately messaged buyer and offered a discount and totally suck-up apologies.  Luckily she got back to me and said oh no biggie.   But I would have shipped and issued the discount refund either way.

Another reason that I have 2-day handling ...

Ooooh, high; what was the selling price?  Meaning, don't tell me the amount but can you absorb that shipping loss if the item is returned?
