Damaged by USPS

I have  been reading several posts and I  am very upset that it appears the item I sold to my buyer was deleivred  to buyer damaged.  I took extra measures to insure the safely of the item in the box when I shipped it. I spent extra time and money with addtional bubble wrap, and still my item was delivered damaged. This is very upsetting on all levels.  I cannot replace this item to the buyer, adn I need to refund her the entire amount of the sale including shipping. WHat good does it do to file a claim with the USPS as E-bay suggests. I dont get it,  why  do we have to pay twice and be the losers here.  What advise   does anyone have?  I have tried evrything, including marking the box fragile, and it still gets delivered damaged. This is the 3rd incident in 3 months.

Are you using brand-new, sturdy boxes? Boxes that were previously used can be a problem; they may look strong but often aren't strong enough to stand the rigors of shipment.

There is a learning curve with shipping fragile items.   I really don't like to and had a couple incidents when I first started out---I learned the hard way.  I rarely have a problem now.  Some items need to be double boxed in addition to tons of packing.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by why file a claim with USPS.  Have you been denied before?  That's always a possibility if they feel the package wasn't packed properly, but if it is insured, I would file.

If it was insured (including the free $50-$100 priority mail insurance) and properly packed, USPS pays instead of you.

However, if more than 1% of your items are arriving damaged, or if items are damaged but not the box, it may be that your packing is not as good as you think it is.

Whom do you think SHOULD be the loser?

Pack your items to withstand being dropped at least 20 feet multiple times

a box needs to be packed well enough that it can be dropped off the roof of a house.

multiple items inside need to be able to not bang into each other from something like road vibration......

peanuts need to be packed tight. pile them in and then shove them down. If something is super fragile like a figurine, make sure to double box it.

Politely ask the buyer for pics.

You're not risking anything by filing a claim online without pics. Sometimes, USPS pays without proof.

Pack better, which comes with experience.

USPS pays instead of you.

Maybe so but buybe not!

The seller has to refund the buyer and then deal with insurance.

Pack your box tight. That's where the most damage comes from - not packing stuff tight enough and it moves around in the box. I pack, shake, and then often add more packing material.

If it was the platter and you shipped it flat the sudden stop concussion broke it.  It needed to be shipped on its side....

You do not have to pay twice. USPS will refund you the entire amount including shipping. File a claim.

Every claim I have filed with USPS has been paid - if the shipping box is damaged they tend to pay

How do you stop them turning it flat or side on anyway?

Label placement the OP would have needed a box 16" long 12" tall and 6" wide if you have to go buy that box new its $5.48,but if you have a local pizza place ask for one of their mozzarella cheese boxes just the ticket and have a 250 pound bursting stength...  and they are free for the asking....
