Customized item authenticated!

I recently sold a pair of customized sneakers. The pair was listed in the item specifics as customized as well as in the description. It had me ship the items to an authenticator and to my surprise, they refunded the buyer and are sending the shoes back to me.

I was under the assumption that under eBay policy, items listed as customized are not authenticated. Why is this item being returned to me? Is there anything I can do?

If it's the pair you sold on the 9th, that listing was removed so we can't see how it was listed. It did have the Authenticity Guarantee badge though.

eBay generally doesn't remove listings unless they find them to be counterfeit. If a listing doesn't pass authentication because of condition eBay leaves the listing available so the seller can relist with a more accurate description.

So it looks like the authenticators determined   your shoes were fake.

  • Items specified as customized will not be authenticated.
  • “Customized” is defined as shoes that have been modified from their original state. Examples include shoes with personalized elements, custom artwork, or any modifications that did not come with the original sneaker.

Did you sell the pair of shoes 4 times or did you have 4 pair of those rare shoes?

Have a great day.

The shoes were sold ONE time. They were listed as customized and still got authenticated. Completely goes against eBay policy.

Correct. Yet the shoes were still sent to authentication, inspected by the authentication team and then returned to me. Item specifics said they were customized and so did the listing description.

So why are authenticators inspecting the item? The item was listed as customized. Customized items are not supposed to be inspected by the authentication team.

These sneakers are a joint collaboration with 2 companies to produce this particular shoe. I wouldn't think that customized  would be the proper term.

I agree @silverstatetreasureboxes - that does not meet the customized definition. We can't see the listing sold on the 9th because it was removed and the other sold listings I looked at did not mention customization.

Same lead pic on all 4 sold listings and did not see any customization in the pic

I'm wondering if seller used the term customized because they were hoping to avoid authenticators and get away with selling fakes?

I see what this has turned into. An attack on the seller instead of addressing the fact that eBay blatantly ignored policy and authenticated shoes that were listed as customized. EVEN THOUGH EBAY POLICY SPECIFICALLY STATES: “Sneakers specified as customized will not be authenticated.“ Yet, they were authenticated. Let’s just ignore the actual issue here, right?

I don't see any attack. I asked a question if they were fake and you didn't answer. Asking a question is about trying to figure out what happened. No accusations were made.

We can't see the original listing to say if there was a problem with the way the customization details were set up because eBay removed the listing.

What did the email say about the authenticator's rejection? Did the email say the authenticators determined the sneakers were not authentic?

Also, how were they customized? Your lead photo does not show any signs of customization?

It was an attack. You suggested that I listed them as customized to get away with selling fakes. That is exactly what your message says. The shoes were listed as customized because they have had a sole swap, if you must know. No other issues. The reason for the return was “could not determine authenticity”. Why is authenticity being determined on a CUSTOMIZED item. That is the entire issue here.

I said I wondered if that happened. Meaning I'm questioning if it's a possibility. If that's not what happened all you have to say is no, that's not what happened, they were authentic.

I made no accusations. I never said you took those actions. I just questioned the possibility. That's not an attack. Sorry you see it that way.

>>Why is authenticity being determined on a CUSTOMIZED item. That is the entire issue here.

I believe I answered that multiple times. Because your listing was removed and we can't see the original listing, there is no way for us to tell you what happened. Could have been an issue with the way you set it up, or could have been an issue on eBay's end. Only eBay can answer that because eBay can see your original listing. Unless someone does a search and finds a cached version of the listing which isn't too likely because of how briefly the listing was live. Possible though, if someone wants to make the effort.
