Customer Disputes, Loose your money and item as well? How Can we survive?

I now have had 4 Disputes.. Never had a issue in the 3 years we have been on Ebay.. Seems we are being targeted by some savvy buyers..  I keep thinking somewhere on social media that these people have shared info how to beat the  EBAY system... Even Ebay cashes in with a extra $20 charge...

Here is a few cases..

*** Customer makes the Purchase,, once its shipped they then file a dispute stating they do not recognize the purchase / charge..  2 times this has happened and customer receives and keeps item and gets their money back.. PLUS Ebay charges another $20 bucks...

*** Customer buys a product..  Slams us on Feedback, never contacts us or Ebay with a issue.. SEnds the item back under Ebay's Money Back Guarantee.. Item shows up,, they destroyed the item,, also did not return the entire order..  We lost the sale,, product,,and 2 way shipping..

*** Next scam... Customers (2) supposedly orders product and so we shipped,,, Then 4 days later same exact order again,, different name but same address... WE did not pick up on that parts.. Here comes the disputes,, not recongnize charge,,, WE were a lil lucky on both orders.. The USPS driver states that the address was vacant, so they did not leave product either time.. Both orders were returned to us,, but we lost shipping...

I have tried to contact EBAY and actually talk to someone..  I have come to a conclusion we are just dealing with a computer system,, the program thats been written has loop holes and we the sellers are expected to take the loss...

We are just about ready to call it quits on Ebay...  I stated in some feedback that a company selling 250K + a year (Part Time) on here must not mean much to them.. Still no one will contact us or even send us a legitimate Email...

Has anyone else having these issues all of a sudden?

I completely feel your pain. Ebay is a joke. They are just as bad as Paypal. No wonder they used to work together.

It really is just an automated flawed system and there is ZERO protection against sellers.

I, too, fell victim of that (buyer gets to keep a free new expensive item) and Ebay is also robbing extra $20+ on top of it too to slap your face.

that $20 charge should be illegal as they are the judge and benefit from siding with the buyer.....

The 20 Dollar Charge Comes from the CC company, not from ebay.

Besides, when you signed up for selling on ebay, you agreed to a lot of terms.

Seller's generally do have protections for returns. However you must have FREE RETURNS

And if you do, you can refund the buyer up to 50% of the sale price and ebay protects you. So it's not "Ebay has no seller protections" It's the issue of not seeing the other options they have

Re: Customer Disputes, Loose your money and item as well? How Can we survive?

A couple of notes.

*** Customer makes the Purchase,, once its shipped they then file a dispute stating they do not recognize the purchase / charge..  2 times this has happened and customer receives and keeps item and gets their money back.. PLUS Ebay charges another $20 bucks...

With the move to MP this appears to be an increasing problem and part of it appears to be the way eBay is showing the charge on the customers credit card bill. Prior to MP a lot of people used PayPal which was backed by a credit card but appeared differently on ones credit card statement. EBay needs to improve the information provided on the buyers credit card invoice so buyers have a better understanding of what the charge is for. The Amazon orders that appear on my credit card statement are pretty clear and easy to figure out as were/are the paypal charges.

Not sure how the buyer was refunded in this case since they never officially opened a case with eBay could you provide a bit more detail on how this happened? Who refunded the customers money?

How can we survive?

It is a great question.  And one that is difficult to answer if you have not had to deal with a myriad of chargebacks, SNADs, INRs, Empty Box syndrome, etc.

Unfortunately, after 7 months of this, with no end in sight for us this year, we decided you cannot survive under the current fraud landscape.  There is only so much you can do to mitigate these scams.  And the scams keep getting more evolved.

Used to if you did not sell high-risk items, you did not find yourself dealing with these issues.  That is no longer true.

So very sorry.  Meant sincerely.

When we received package we then responded to ebay stating condition of item and missing parts.. Customer was then balistic and made the claim...

Yes they are learning how to do this but the issue is that Ebay allows and  encourages this theft by not protecting the sellers. This is a buyers platform and i dont care what the employees and cheerleaders have to say. This happens more and more and we will all have this issue soon.

Re: Customer Disputes, Loose your money and item as well? How Can we survive?

I found a way to avoid all of the scams (SO FAR).

I never, ever sell a high-value item that my business model is not prepared to lose along with my money. My threshold is currently at a value of $80.00. So far, scammers bypass me after seeing my nearly 10,000 feedbacks, being on eBay for over 23 years, and no items over $80 unless it is for local pickup and cash. I really feel bad for the new sellers...

However, this partially defeats the purpose of being on eBay, as now I cannot use this site for higher-value items. Hello Craigslist for selling those items with no shipping and cash only.

Cheers, Duffy

Guide

It's taken some sellers (such as myself) a long time to learn how to deal with returns, how to win those we can and what to do about those we lose, in all of that we lost and lose far more than we win... But if we never had a return we would've never learned either, granted it's a learning experience we would've rather not even entertained but the benefit of it is that today, for the most part, we roll nicely with it all.

The returns you speak of, those 4 disputes...

I'm just curious, and there's no way to tell but...
Would a seller who is really experienced in the MBG and returns department been able to win even one of those?  And perhaps not, but it was a worthy thought for us to consider when we embarked on the journey to learn all we could about returns, and that consideration... The education we gained from that journey pays off today, every single return, we still lose more than we win but at least we've managed to curb our losses as much as we possibly think possible lol

Good luck to you, we all need it.

Ahhh yes, the mafia wins again, slipped it right through that little loophole Wooopsie!!!
Yup, yup, bet you (the seller) didn't see that one coming.
I can almost hear them laughing in the background about that, except... The people giving out the answer are in just as bad a shape as we are, barely getting paid enough to eke out a meager existence in some third world country, you think we have it bad, wait until you see how the CS lives!
