Counterfeits being allowed by eBay

What's the deal with eBay allowing counterfeits being listed as real?  I report obvious counterfeits,  detailing why, and eBay "experts" deemed them as real.

Is eBay reluctant to pull listings because they will lose their commission?  I wish eBay had more integrity and the buyers protection in their best interest.

Ebay will remove counterfeits if reported by the company.......thru the Vero program.

How do they know what an individual is claiming is true?  Could be a competitor trying to take down his competition........

Your listing (Benchmade 133) is clever and informative. 👍

Ebay agents are not experts. They just review the listing and if there isn't any reason they see that the listing will get removed they won't remove it. You are an expert. They aren't. It's one of those things where you did your job which is reported the listing. That's all that you can do. Just beware what you are buying. Ask questions up front. Review feedback. If there is any indication that the item is counterfeit then don't buy it.

Ebay gives you as a buyer a 30 day money back guarantee to return counterfeit items. It comes down to Buyer Beware.

Adding "REAL" to the title and listing a non-rare $150-$200 knife for $20,000 just screams 'genuine' to me.... best of luck to ya though.

of course.  It's a ridiculous waste of a listing that will bring zero benefit to those genuinely curious to tell a real from a fake.

I get the OP is frustrated with 'fakes' out there.  But posting your own 'fake' listing is not the way to solve the problem.

I disagree. If i was looking for something like this, i always sort by low to high and high to low to see what i may be missing. That high price would be enough for me to click it to read what they thought they had. I don't see the harm in doing this and only see a nice public announcement the OP has offered. As long as they don't break any rules of course.

Just to be clear... Are you are actually SELLING that knife you listed?

How does ebay know you are an expert? No one on ebay(buyers sellers, or ebay staff) is gonna believe YOU are an expert.

You could be the scammer.

I guess you're trying to find out if they are selling the knife so you can tell them that is against policy. 😒 It does not matter if they are an expert or not, it does bring attention to the possibilities of others (knives) that may not and should warrant more education/research from potential buyers.

The OP is upset because ebay will not remove items that he deems  counterfeit.

Here's the problem...I'm sure you'd be upset if eBay removed your listings because one person reported them as fakes. Why should they do it because you reported them as fakes?

eBay's philosophy is to let any lowlife sell on its platform ... until the lowlife racks up violations sufficient to  lead to account termination.

Until then, its "buyer beware" and "let the chips fall where they may."

The reason is pretty simple: eBay gets a cut of every sale and those are monies that earn interest in some fashion.

If it takes a week for the buyer to conclude that he was sold a fake, then that's interest earned for a week.

Multiply that times potentially hundreds of thousands of transactions.

Then think about how many buyers will never report a fake because they think they got an authentic item.

eBay seller since 1999. This is a posting ID.
