Condition description

It looks like ebay moved the condition description on some or all of our items. We're getting messages from buyers asking question about the condition - which we have in the listing. It's now under item specifics.

Did they do this to everyone or are we just lucky? Really bad move. Causing us  problems already.

Same. I've always noted any flaws both in the item specifics and in the description itself so that people can't claim they didn't see it.

Re: Condition description

I just looked at your tree listing and the condition was up top under the title and in the item specifics.

Re: Condition description

I looked at two of my accounts.

@iart The Condition is, as you say, under the title, on my own that may say "new" or "used", but on at least one, there were some words to modify the basic condition, which I had put in the text box on a Used item. (New didn't have such a text box.)

I also  saw another seller's  listing where that Condition was given as "- -" , I would guess because the seller did not fill in Condition on the SYI form.  Instead he described damage to the box and stated that the item inside was still sealed and new. I hope that does not come back to bite him*.

A book I have listed on another iD has "  Condition: Goodspine curved by reading creases edgewear bent corner UL back cover”  "

Which was the further description I had entered on the SYI form.

However it may be going by category since on this ID my stamp listing #203832931198 does not have a Condition as such just the "--".

But stamps should have Grading and that item is VeryFine Never Hinged, which is generally considered hot stuff.

On the whole, I think Condition is now more visible than before which is probably a Good Thing.  But it does look as if I have to find a quiet time to monitor listings as they are about to close to see if Condition is properly filled in.

Sigh.

At the least, buyers were used to the old way and don't look for the new.

eBay changed it. Item condition used to be in its own section up top of the listing. Now they buried it in the item specifics.

We really don't want to revise 2,300 items. Ugg

I don't think they changed it; I looked at our items, filtered by 'newest listings first' and the first 3 show, then 1 not, then 4 show, then 2 not, then 6 show, then 2 not etc. Seems to be hit miss, but about 80% still show. All items were 'books' in same category and all auctions.

Looking at mine in 'Ebay Motors parts/access' they ALL still show as well as many other sellers in that category.

No, I don't see that anymore. But I DO see that the condition is also directly under the title, in small print, and easy to miss.

Same for your listings as mine.

What browser do you use? We use Firefox and eBay often tries to get us to use Google Chrome - which I hate.

The other issue this has caused moving to Item specifics vs the original field (when it is being moved) is they have reduced the number of allowable characters corrupting the original data. In many situations that information was extremely important. Believe the field limit is now 65.

I've had a few items recently where they were missing a new IS. Before I could complete I had to edit that field to MAKE it fit. This will definitely cause problems down the road.

The other area that has been corrupted is Bundle Description. That too is a limit of 65 characters vs the previous many more.

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing........but the item condition area on the listing form hasn't changed.....it still has room for 2000 characters:

As far as I know.........in the categories I use......there has never been an "item condition" field for NEW items.....presumably because new is new....no flaws that need to be highlighted........

I agree.

But sometimes I wish there were.

Re: Condition description

They must be changing the view to users a little bit at a time.  I see the condition for your listing under the title as usual but instead of also being at the top of item specifics, its within item specifics as a 'sellers note'.

@iart

I have to say that even though I don't sell HERE anymore, the "condition box" be it an item specific or  separately  included in the sell your item description flow, was always a "general" synopsis that should NEVER be meant to be a replacement for the true description area.

Good, see photos, good vintage condition, great condition for its age, etc. etc. are all garbage phrases in my opinion.   Sellers whose 'description' that does nothing more than repeat the title with no additional information is becoming the norm.  Like....I want to know HOW TALL IS THAT VASE?   Not just 'nice vase, see pics".

One should include in the description SIZE, MATERIAL, and any condition issues that make it NOT MINT, with the latter clearly described and shown.   Please do not tell me to look at your photos that were taken of a piece from three feet away on your shag carpet in a closet with the lights out.   Do not tell me some of the items in a lot are scratched or broken, and NOT mention WHICH FREAKING ONES and WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG WITH THEM.

I spent a few hundred dollars buying today....on eBay not so much. They got less than 1/8 of my total.

Re: Condition description

thanks for the screen shot..... @pjcdn2005   I kept wondering about the placement of seller notes as defined by IART....exactly where it was placed.

I've wondered about how/why the same verbiage is used for both "seller notes" and item condition description....... I've never filled out a field called "seller notes".....

Yesterday, I thought I'd fill in a seller notes in an existing listing to see what would happen, but could not find that field in an active listing nor in the blank form itself.......can you find it?  I think the display is a leftover from previous IS changes and is certainly redundant.

I agree they are doing changes/test/slow rollout........and frankly, as long as the item condition description is up top.......I'm ok with this.....I repeat that in the description itself also.

Re: Condition description

We continue to get condition questions. It's just unusual.

And yes, we will from now on include the condition in with the item description.

Re: Condition description

You say circus panels.  I say "jumping monkeys" in the background. LOL
And I agree.   I open the listing to read about the item listed, and nothing about the item.
Just an add page about who they are and their policies.
I just move on to the next item.   Can't believe they sell used, not so nice, stuff that way.
