For those of you who love me complaining; here I am again!  LOL   On Sunday Nov. 14 & 21, in just 10 hours at the flea market, I generated more $$ in sales than the entire month of Nov. on eBay!!  Far less people seeing my items but achieving MUCH better sales.  This is because, I'm guessing, no one wants me stuff?  Funny how, in this tiny city, my items are more appealing than to the rest of the world.  😛   Or could be it because eBay is making so many horrible  changes to the site that less & less people want to deal with it?  Not to mention the slow & expensive shipping.  Anyone here living out of their car?  Or in a storage unit?  I may need advice on that kind of situation.  Good luck to us all!

Depending on what you sell, wouldn't there be fewer competing sellers at the flea market also?

People around here set up offices in storage units, but "Storage units, on the other hand, run for anywhere between $100-$300 per month" doesn't touch how much they cost here - for $150/mo you can get a 5 feet x 5 feet space, even in my unfashionable neighbourhood.  For a space where you can actually cram a bed, a hot plate, a clothes rack and a few books, it's closer to $1000/mo. 

I lived in a walk-in closet for a while in undergrad school.  @sakic92710  have you considered a walk-in closet?

So there cities where storage units can actually be used for habitation?

No requirement that a rental have available sanitary facilities like toilets?

Toilet Seat and a 5 Gallon Bucket; now you have a toilet. $15 at HD.

I'm positive people here are living in storage  units - our housing situation is pretty bad (Seattle Metro), but it's not legal.  I do not think it's illegal to use one for a work place, though, i.e., just move in a desk or work table - it would not be residency.  One would need one with heat, though (which is possible but more spendy).

Over here they'll let you WORK out of a storage unit but not LIVE in one.

Shows are superb for me. Sales are final. There is a show in Dallas area where you can leave items displays etc. So, in essence storage is free. It's going to take a LOT for me to sell on eBay again. Fees cheaper than storage.

It is not that I do not think I can sell things on eBay but seller protection and hoops to adjust to are unacceptable to me.

I too sell at antique shows/flea markets and do very well.  Cash in hand!  People always love my booth because it is filled with old books and other ephemera.   I will always do both eBay and antique shows.  I have considered selling at antique stores, but their monthly rate + commission is even higher than eBay!

I know the office I work at in my home feels a bit like a storage unit because of all the stuff I have crammed in there. 🙂

Good for you at the flea market.  When I go to the one small local one, most dealers I see could sell their booth bare and still not have very much.
