Why does ebay still have the star rating for communication?
99.9% of my transactions don't even require any communications with the buyers.

Worse yet, why do so many sellers give “great communication“ feedback to buyers? And what sellers are truly giving “highly recommended“ buyer recommendations to other sellers?

I guess there's some old leftover stuff that the eBay suits haven't 'reimagined' yet.

Yes, I sometimes receive a "great communication" for transactions that had no communication whatsoever. 😉

Communication is automatic 5 star rating if there are no eBay messages exchanged between buyer and seller.
Shipping & Handling Charge is automatic 5 star rating if the seller offered Free Shipping.

That just the good old "apply saved random replies" when leaving feedback😂

Ever have a customer want to be your buddy or pen pal? I have.

Because the tech guy who was supposed to get rid of the star rating for communication thing got sidetracked for two years trying to figure out how you could post photos in feedback.

I always assumed it was referring to how well or quickly the seller responded to questions. (As noted, it's an automatic 5 stars if no communication occurred.)

My customers usually get at least TWO emails directly from ME -- an acknowledgement (with gratitude) for the customer purchasing one of my items, including a notification of when it will be shipped; plus a follow-up notification (with more gratitude) after I mail off the item, indicating the method of shipment, with a possible mention of other items on my eBay site in which they might be interested.
And yet -- my "Communication" levels are never higher than some of the other ratings.
So -- either some buyers just don't care about seller communications -- or some buyers think I'm communicating TOO much.
Flip a coin.

Is it really necessary to use such a derogatory word as "karen" on these boards?
Name-calling just for the purpose of name-calling is not laudable.

I wonder the same thing, honestly. They pay, I ship. Done, with absolutely zero communication needed on either end.

Honest question: why? As a buyer, I would be very annoyed to receive either one of those two things. I will receive the tracking number when you print the label, which is the only thing that matters so that I can enter it in my Informed Delivery. If I cared about any of the other things you had for sale, I would have already either purchased them or added them to my watchlist to consider for purchase in the future.
