Why does ebay still have the star rating for communication?

99.9% of my transactions don't even require  any communications with the buyers.

Is it really necessary to use such a derogatory word as "karen" on these boards?

Name-calling just for the purpose of name-calling is not laudable.

Is it ok to use the word if i'm calling myself a male Karen?

I've noticed as I get older, I complain a lot more.

Ever have a customer want to be your buddy or pen pal?  I have.

I got 8 penpal like messages in a couple hours while I was at work. I was trying to ignore, but he just wouldn't stop... maxed out the characters in each message and sent photos of his family and everything. I finally replied "look, I appreciate you wanting to tell me all about your life and family and stuff, but I'm at work right now and don't have time to read this". He writes back "will you read it later?" And I just ignored.

Then he left positive feedback that was like a novel on my profile when he got his token. I shared it with the forum and you all had a great laugh at his expense... he was writing a book on my profile until he ran out of characters. Someone pointed out this is a very good reason to put the limit back to 80 characters. (But in all fairness I got some pretty nice longer feedbacks once in a while).

Several times. I just shook one of those a few days ago.

LOL, I've had a few who believed we were buddies then got mad when they found out it's all business.

I've been invited to local coin shows and coin club meetings by customers who want to get to know me better... I don't do personal appearances (but I have a friend who's a director at a local club and thought of sponsoring their 2024 Christmas dinner to be a special guest at that... we've done this before at a club to be introduced to the community).

Because the tech guy who was supposed to get rid of the star rating for communication thing got sidetracked for two years trying to figure out how you could post photos in feedback.

I just read a slew of negative feedback that referred to photos that were part of the feedback, but I couldn't see the photos.

Did they take those away?

My customers usually get at least TWO emails directly from ME -- an acknowledgement (with gratitude) for the customer purchasing one of my items, including a notification of when it will be shipped; plus a follow-up notification (with more gratitude) after I mail off the item, indicating the method of shipment, with a possible mention of other items on my eBay site in which they might be interested.

And yet -- my "Communication" levels are never higher than some of the other ratings.

So -- either some buyers just don't care about seller communications -- or some buyers think I'm communicating TOO much.

Flip a coin.

I've gotten a few responses from people that indicated I was pestering them by sending messages, so now I just send them out if really necessary (like a delay in shipping that isn't anticipated). When I send the offers I try to cover off shipping related questions ahead of time, so there's no surprises that I'm shipping a Friday purchased item on Monday.

"As a buyer, I would be very annoyed to receive either one of those two things. I will receive the tracking number when you print the label, which is the only thing that matters so that I can enter it in my Informed Delivery. If I cared about any of the other things you had for sale, I would have already either purchased them or added them to my watchlist to consider for purchase in the future."

It's interesting that (as a buyer) you would feel "very annoyed to receive either one of those two things."

First of all -- you haven't read either message -- so how do you know that those communications would annoy you?

Secondly -- since I don't leave immediate "knee-jerk" positive feedback each time a buyer makes a purchase, it provides me the opportunity to thank them for visiting my site.  And many of my buyers let me know how grateful they are to receive BOTH messages, and have mentioned that they wished that other sellers would respond in the same thoughtful manner.

Finally -- many, many buyers are unaware of the potentiality in other items on my site, which may be similar to the items which the buyer had originally purchased.  I definitely don't expect ANY of my buyers to have the intellectual foreknowledge to be aware of EVERY work ever written on a subject in which they may be interested; and many, many of my return buyers are those who have followed up on the recommendations which I have offered in my second email to them.

When I was employed at a "brick and mortar" store, it was not uncommon for one of my regular "return buyer" customers to spend about $1500.00 a week on items which I would recommend to them -- so apparently they were not "very annoyed" with me -- nor are my current return buyers on eBay.

Because that would mean fixing or changing something that actually needs fixing or changing - We all know their record when it comes to that..

By the way, I think you should have a 95% communication rating due to your responses on this board - hahaha - kidding!

Because I don't want completely unnecessary messages cluttering up my inbox. I get just as annoyed when other webstores send me emails of the "Since you looked at X, here's a bunch of suggestions for other things to buy!" sort. Like I said, if I wanted them, I would buy them.

All I want is a confirmation that my order was received and is being processed, and then the tracking number when it actually ships. Nothing more than that.

Not to worry, then.

You won't be receiving any emails from me.

Ever.

Maybe, its the shipment notification received once the seller prints out the shipping label????

The DSRs help buyers when evaluating our FB to see if they want to do business with us.  Beyond that none of the DRSs mean much of anything.

Honest question: why? As a buyer, I would be very annoyed to receive either one of those two things. I will receive the tracking number when you print the label, which is the only thing that matters so that I can enter it in my Informed Delivery. If I cared about any of the other things you had for sale, I would have already either purchased them or added them to my watchlist to consider for purchase in the future.

The tracking number (at least in my case) auto populates in Informed Delivery without me needing to enter it.
