Chinese buyer has item reshipped and then threatens feedback

I sold an item to a registered Chinese buyer on Nov. 30 and it was delivered to a US address less than a week later. The item was listed as untested and was sold in as found condition and I stated in my listing that it would require restoration if the buyer chose to do so.

I woke up yesterday to a message from the buyer that the item was missing a part and that I had deliberately taken the photos to hide the actual condition. I explained to the buyer that as stated in the listing the item was untested and I had no knowledge of the function, use, or which parts if any would be required to restore it. I also pointed out that my photos were detailed and exhibited the item from several angles. I also told him I would be happy to reimburse him for the $7.00 missing part. He replied by calling me a clown and then left a negative feedback stating I was a “dishonest seller”. I attempted to resolve the matter by offering a replacement part   but rather than respond he simply left the negative. I seem to recall that there may be a recourse to have this feedback removed but I can’t find any policy stating that I am only responsible for the item to be delivered to the US address, and that the buyer assumes responsibility due to a subsequent shipment to a foreign address. A return was never requested. This has been extremely annoying and I would appreciate any input regarding removal of the feedback or any alternate resolution.

Thanks, Gary

Since we can't see the feedback or the item, hard to give advice.......

I don't see a reason for removal. Ebay will just say it's the buyer's opinion.  Having an item reshipped doesn't remove a buyer's ability to leave feedback, unless they lose a case.

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

My input is don't waste your time trying to get it removed.

Respond and move on to the next fire.

Response: "Buyer reshipped item voiding buyer protection- feedback retaliation."

oooh, nice! Can responses be removed? Would it stick? If so, then yeah, that's a good one.

Considering the amount of totally unprofessional responses we see outright accusing buyers of scamming and worse, I really don't see why a passive- voice, fact based feedback response WOULDN'T stick- with the caveat that this is, after all, eBay.

I dunno, just guessing here.

Rather than trying to convince a non-reading buyer to accept a partial refund or to the accuracy of the pictures, might it have made sense to say - Dear Buyer, Sorry you are not happy with the widget, please return it for a full refund.  Thanks, Seller?

Then the buyer has to put up or shut up OR ask for a partial refund for the part. In either situation, buyer makes the call and has to be happy with what they decided.

I know it is hard to take when a buyer is upset and challenging one's veracity.  It is hard to not take it personally and get defensive.  But it's just bidness.

So maybe something to think about going forward?

Good luck!

Just to clarify, I did offer a refund in my first communication with the buyer. His subsequent reply referred to me as a clown.

Then send him a gif of a clown waving hello.

...and then forget him forever,

Was it sold as-is? If it was, I'd have your back, but the reality is, you can't sell anything but used and working or new in box on eBay anymore. eBay will back a refund on anything else no matter what the description is or what the laws are or how well the item was described in the first place.

This isn't a sellers' market anymore. It should be, but eBay only cares about making their own money. I know you will deny deny deny until it happens to you but its going to happen to you... just give it time.

eBay is an untrustworthy vendor. They've earned themselves a bad name in the industry now and its been so bad, I doubt they'll ever dig out.
