See? This is why I've been telling the wife I'm not eating nearly as much Cheetos as I should be.

But of course, if you'd eaten one like that, it would have become worthless.

I'm always fascinated by unusual items like that.  We deal in books, and we see some rare ones every once in a while.  We just got a first English edition of Phantom of the Opera, which is ridiculously cool to have, but apparently if it had still had the dust jacket on it, it would have been only one of 3 known surviving copies of that dust jacket!  Someone on another site is selling one of those copies with the dust jacket for $40,000 (though granted, no idea if it'll actually sell for that much or if they've overpriced it).

Buy yourself a nice facsimile dust jacket. The neat thing about the first American edition of Phantom of the Opera is that the publisher (Bobbs-Merrill Company in New York) issued that book with two different dust jackets, supposedly so that they could appeal to different markets around the country at that time.

IMO Facsimile Dust Jacket LLC are currently making the best facsimile dust jacket reproductions. And they are affordable.

I'm really gonna miss Flamin' Hot (if they've got Red Dye #5 in them, that is), but yes... any Cheetos will do nicely. 😁

We looked into that! It’s not for us to keep though, we’re a bookstore so it’s gonna be up for sale, and the facsimile dust jackets don’t really add to the value, despite looking nice.

I to am a book seller, but in my experience I would have to disagree.

In fact from my experience offering any book of value for sale online, is that any one of those books that I have sold in the past generally sell in a third of less time than a book that is offered with no dust jacket whatsoever. And for me said book (with a facsimile dust jacket) will sell for 20% to 30% more than the same book that is offered for sale no dust jacket, or bare.

IMO as a book seller I am trying to beat all of the other book sellers with my same book that offers that book with a facsimile dust jacket versus all of the other book sellers who are selling that same (book of value) that is missing is original dust jacket, and is being offered for sale absent any type of dust jacket.

As with anything, you're mileage may vary.

Thanks for the advice! I’m not the one making the decision, but I’ll pass it along! I wouldn’t have expected that!

You’re supposed to eat them, not gouge your eyes with them.
