I see a lot of Cd's for sale in the four dollar range on eBay with free shipping. If you buy postage through eBay the media mail option cost is $3.92!
Are these sellers shipping without tracking?
The reason I ask is I have a collection of Cd's i want to sell. Quite a few will have to be priced at $3.50 to $6.00.
Thanks for the help.

Many of those CDs selling for less than $4.00 (with free shipping) were either received free to the seller, or were bulk sales purchased at auction -- sometimes for less than 1 cent per CD.
Hard to compete with sellers like that -- so try to sell uncommon CDs that those sellers don't have listed.
Or try selling at a garage sale or flea market.

Personally, I don't think sellers made decent profits selling CDs at $4, unless they sell tons of them. I recently purchased a CD that the seller shipped without tracking. They went to the post office and paid $2.41 for a first class postage (I think the listing price was like $5.50 with free shipping). But to me that is risky if you get a buyer that claims they never received their order.

As for the CDs - numerous things happening here:
- Sellers relying on bulk sales so they can combine into one shipment and see profits.
- Sellers that ditched the cases and are shipping untracked non-machinable flats
- Sellers that are mega sellers and pay basically zero for inventory
And the list goes on ...

Good point, thanks!

Thank you!
I have received Cd's from some big sellers that were sent without tracking. Bulk selling sounds like the way to go

I sell some CD's, but not a lot of them.
Generally $5, + I always ship Media Mail for $3.92.
I mention in my listing that I ship in a box, not an envelope, so the CD has a much better chance of arriving with an undamaged case. Buyers seem to be willing to pay a little more when they know it will not arrive damaged like they always do when shipped for "free" in an envelope.
My cost on the CD's is so low ($0.50) I don't mind paying the fee on the higher total.

Cheapest way to ship a CD that sells for $4.00
Local pickup only. Doesn't get cheaper than that.

So, I have to drive to meet someone I don't know for $4, like meet me at the police station parking lot, and make sure to alert the police of a $4 transaction in progress.

Selling a CD for $4 including shipping, and running the risks of a false INR claim might still be cheaper than paying to have a dumpster of worthless CDs disposed of.

I think that is what is being done. Not everyone is a thief.

The people selling CDs for 4 dollars shipped are media specialists who have a 5 digit media mail presort rate with the post office. Many of them are also charities, which only pay 2 percent ebay fees. Combine both of those factors and they can sell a CD at a profit for about $1.80 less than what it costs you just to break even on mailing it out.

Probably better off selling more than one at a time (selling in lots). You can create several lots of CDs. Selling each CD one at a time seems tedious and time consuming. If you do sell in lots, finding a buyer may be challenging, but at least the buyer will get a bargain instead of purchasing one at time and you will be able to unload many CDs at one time.
