Chargebacks! 
Hello everyone, I wanted to know who receive chargeback from eBay, and how many Chargeback you receive per year as sellers !

22 years on eBay and have had a total of two. Both scammy, both won.

20 years (and one day) on ebay, none yet. Fingers crossed there, but my price roof is low. I'm not comfortable selly risky or expensive stuff...

Adyen and PayPal are the merchant of record in a buyer's credit card chargeback; as Charles explains, Adyen and PayPal are the payments processors for eBay.

 

Instead, eBay is downstream from Adyen and PayPal, and just has large accounts at Adyen and PayPal which eBay uses for withdrawals of payments from buyers, and  for refunds to buyers, etc.

A decade ago, PayPal was facing rising fees due to excessive buyer chargebacks, so PayPal increased the time for a buyer to file a dispute from 45 days to 180 days, to persuade buyers to file disputes on PayPal, where PayPal maintains control of the dispute, instead of going directly to a chargeback outside of PayPal.

I have heard the industry average is one percent of sales, but I'm not sure if that means most retailers have one chargeback/failed transaction per 100 sales, or if they lose one percent of their payments  to chargebacks/failed transactions ( one dollar lost or refunded for every $100 incoming).

 

I don't recall any in the past few years, not even refunds, but had two this past month one actually paid by eBay.

Yes that can help by increasing the number of days to be able to receive a refund as well. That is why you should give buyers ample time to return merchandise. We use 30 days.

Chargebacks are not created by Ebay.  A chargeback is when a buyer goes directly to their Credit Card Company to file a claim.

 

This is not the same as a buyer that files a Request for return or an INR in Ebay.

 

Most sellers don't get a bunch of either of these types of situations.  There are however categories that are more problematic than others and do get more of them than other categories.  

 

What category are you planning to sell in?

I think that is a bit confusing and not in the spirit of what the OP was asking.  

 

I'm unsure of what you are saying about MP or PP for that matter.  I've always known about a Chargeback that was filed since I've been in MP and I always knew about them in Paypal.  

 

Seems you are trying to complicate this a bit more than is necessary.

I think they are trying to figure out how many returns and/or Chargebacks they can respect on a regular basis to then decide if it is worthwhile for them to sell here.  I understand why they ask, especially if they are only coming to the community boards to make this decision.  The board if full of complaints and concerns and experiences on the subject.

 

With that said, none of us would be selling here if there were so many returns and/or Chargebacks that we couldn't run a viable little business and make a profit.

 

It is also important for @yardens2012 to understand the negativity of the Community threads is normal.  This is where people come to vent, rant, ask questions and get answers or advice.  That is the nature of community boards.  Feel good stories are rare because most would not even participate in one as it doesn't interest them.

 

In a nutshell most sellers do not get so many returns or Chargebacks that it will prevent the seller from being profitable.  I personally don't even average one per Quarter.

One from the country of Cyprus. It still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I won my case on eBay but then a few weeks later I lost on his banking institution in Cyprus.

Did you mean you get 4-6 chargebacks a month and they all get covered by ebay seller protection?  I feel like the majority time I hear about cases where ebay didn't help a seller with a chargeback.

 

That hasn't been your experience?

   I've had my share of occasional buyer-scam attempts, but only 1 chargeback in the 24 years I've been here. The buyer didn't recognize the charge detailed on her cc statement, so she challenged it. I reminded her what the charge was for, and she remembered... then she cancelled the chargeback and apologized.

   I've been lucky -- so far...
