For about the past month, I cannot edit or create listings that have the words antique or vintage in the title or descriptions. An error message pops up that I have violated eBay's animal products policy. I have called eBay numerous times and they kept telling me they were working on it. Now they tell me this is the new policy, don't use these terms, and it is appropriate that I get this weird error message that has nothing to do with it. Anyone else experiencing this? eBay is a marketplace for vintage and antique items, so how does this make sense?

... In some ways, this could be a blessing. Most buyers dislike the keywords "antique" and "vintage" because they are, without a doubt, the most misused and deceptive keywords on eBay... Knowledgeable buyers never search for those keywords... Rather than calling something antique or vintage, just say the era or time period that it actually comes from.
AMEN!

Thank you. I had no idea that the eBay help line people were not employed by eBay. If they are not employees, it seems misleading at best...something that sellers are punished for. Certainly, if eBay does not stand behind their advice, they should not give any. Had we not been reassured, asked again and reassured and asked if eBay could find the transcript of conversation data should there be an issue, we would never have made an attempt. In fact, we were told that we should re-list as it was not a problem!
It is very limiting and we sell mostly antiques and vintage items - by the true definitions. Over 100 years old is not in anyone's search (and too many characters) where antique silver might be. Concerned that should I say item from 1940s someone will return it as they know that it is from 1939 and I have no had evidence either way! We will continue to try to get a resolution but banned for life seems very harsh under the circumstances. If it is such a problem, perhaps eBay should ban it for all or none to be fair.

The same thing is happening to me! I have been on eBay for over 20 years without one issue I have a perfect rating. I listed a bracelet for about five dollars the cheapest thing I’ve ever put on there and said ivory color so they took it down thinking that I was selling ivory which I would never do and surely not for five dollars. So I did a chat back-and-forth with them and they said I will fix it and then I get this email you you violated the rules of animal violations and I am I sent them a chat back I said I did not on there ivory I don’t know what to do I guess I’m gonna have to call them because all my stuff is very old and vintage and I can’t use that word I can’t use antique vintage I can’t lift anything under the listing of vintage jewelry or antique jewelry it’s awful another taken out these awful insertion fees which they never did before I guess I’m being majorly punished

I’m still restricted 2 years later. Person said everyone is. I find that hard to believe. And by the way it wasn’t ivory. I do not sell ivory but I cannot use any words associated with it. Frankly the other person responding is a so quick to criticize without even knowing me. I find so many bad spirits around lately. Probably typical for online these days. I do not know everything about eBay selling. Still learning.!! I had listed a confederate solder cross stitch from early 1900’s. That was banned. Confederate flag with soldier. Yet confederate flags are allowed to sell. Go figure.

I TOTALLY AGREE. Someone responded I was deceptive. That was harsh. I am the furthest thing from deceptive. Guess opinions are like ‘eyeballs’ everyone has them. 🤪🤔
