Canceled Order and Payment

Hi everyone,

First time on this board and was hoping for some advice and/or info...

Can the winning bidder pay for an item after that winning bidder's order was canceled?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

A buyer won one of my auctions. After a couple of days went by, I sent as message asking: "will you be making payment on this item?".

A number of hours later, buyer replies and wants the item to be shipped overseas as appose to the U.S.A. based address given by eBay.

I said sure, no problem, and sent him a new invoice for the extra cost. A few hours later, I realized this isn't within the rules and needed to cancel the order because there was a problem with the shipping address.

After I canceled the order, I re-listed the item,.............a few hours later, this same buyer made payment.......after the original order was already canceled and I received fvf credit from eBay for this sale.

It isn't against any eBay rule!

Is this the $1900 Chinese antique? You offer shipping to Americas, Europe, Asia & Australia so if the address your buyer wants to use is in one of those locations then you are obligated to ship (you can increase the shipping charge if the original charge was based on the US shipping address).

Of course you can still cancel but you will likely get a seller performance strike (which might be worth it if you see anything else supicious on such a high value item).

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

Never ship to an address that isn't associated with the payment address (i.e., the shipping address shown in Paypal, which is supposed to match the address in ebay).

Second, you should have blocked this buyer to avoid having this happen again. This time, block him, and then cancel again using the "problem with buyers address".

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

Many buyers purchase items and then add an address to Ebay if they want the item delivered elsewhere. Sometimes buyers are unaware that a seller can't just ship to a different address they've been given in a message but that the address has to be added to the Ebay account and then the seller can proceed and ship.

If you offer shipping out of country and the buyer adds that address than you can not cancel it based on seller address.

I'm assuming the buyer made payment by just sending the funds directly to your Paypal acct since the transaction had been cancelled. If this is the case - just refund that payment.

100% NOT true!

Well I guess you can ship to another address if you want to risk having zero protection from an INR...

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

Thank you both for your replies.

@jonathankirkland

I agree and this is why I canceled the order.......... he wanted me to ship to an address not associated with the address given to eBay (this is before he made payment).

I first told him, yes I can, then realized I couldn't, canceled the sale and wrote him a message stating why I canceled the order (this is before payment was ever made).

After canceling the order, receiving my fvf credit from eBay, I re-listed the item as normal. A few hours later, I get the alert on my phone telling me payment was made (to the original order) and I needed to ship.

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

If the ORIGINAL order was canceled, how was he able to make payment AFTER the original order was canceled?

Are you certain he made payment on the original order and not the re-order?

You said he ordered the item again, in that case what is the status of the second order he placed?

I buy and have items shipped all the time to an address which isn't my ebay address.  That is not a problem.   I merely indicate the address I wish my items be shipped to at the time I make payment.  I do not ask for a change later on.

What we are required to do as sellers is ship to the address which is indicated with the payment.

Re: Canceled Order and Payment

Buyer won my auction.

A couple days after the auction was over, I emailed him asking will he be making payment. He replies a few hours later: I need it sent to China and gave me a China address.

I told him fine, I can send to China, it'll cost more and sent a new invoice.

A couple hours after sending the new invoice, I realized I cannot ship the item to another address not associated with the one given by eBay (payment still wasn't made at this time).

I sent him an email telling him I cannot ship to this address because it's not allowed and was cancelling the order.

I canceled the order, eBay gave me a fvf credit and I re-listed the item.

After I re-listed the item, payment was sent by the buyer and that payment was/is associated with the original order.
