Can not add additional Description after item has bids.

I used to be able to add "Additional Description" to my listings after they had received bids.  Tonight I tried and I receive the error that I can not modify the return policy after bids are received. I did not modify the Return Policy, I just tried to add an "Additional Description" to the listing.  Has anyone else had this problem?Additional1.jpgAdditional2.jpg

Can not add additional Description after item has bids.

You should have NEVER been able to add anything to a listing auction once there are bids.

If you were, it was broken.

Now, it's not.

Check out the first image, it shows, "Additional Description" as an option that is not locked.  That has always been an option, try it on one of your listings.

again, not once a bid has been made. I will stick by what I said- if you were able to before, it was broken. Now it's fixed.

Think about it: I bid $500 on an item that says it is 24" x 60" and weighs 80 lbs and has 1 pound of gold in it.

Then the seller changes the description to say 'sorry I meant it was 24mm x 60mm and weighs 8 lbs and has 1 ounce of gold'.

Not the same thing anymore. Huh?

The last time I had an auction and I needed to revise the description, it wouldn't let me revise the description BUT I could add an additional "note" which showed up under the original description. I don't know if they changed the wording from "note" to "additional description".

You can not change the description, eBay has a space to add Additional information about the listing. Like if the listing says "24" x 60" and weighs 80 lbs and has 1 pound of gold" then you realize you forgot to add that it has a 2 carat diamond in it, so you add "24" x 60" and weighs 80 lbs and has 1 pound of gold" plus " 2 carat diamond"

@stainlessenginecovers You could never make a change to the actual description box. But you have been able to put info in what is called the "Additional Description" box, which is BELOW the main description box, and  which makes it clear to the buyer that this is a change. It has always been best practice to note the time of the change and notify the bidders as well.

That is what I am having problems with, it says I am trying to modify the Return Policy, but I am only trying to add a complete list of what is included in the listing.

No, you didn't.

That's never been an option.

Think about it.

It would not be fair to bidders for you to add or change information AFTER they bid.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques I would love to see one of these listings.

I still don't understand how you can 'now' 'add' to the description after I bid on it.

That means you can say 'ignore the original description, the item is not real gold, it's just painted' ????

I agree it's not fair. But I did find this:

@stainlessenginecovers  @inhawaii

PLEASE look at the OPs illustration.

See where it says "description"? See the "lock" symbol?

That means you CAN NOT make CHANGES in the original description box once bids have been received.  And so, you are correct...as far as that goes.

But look below there----see where it says "Additional Description". That has been available (I think you must click on something to get it to show, but it has been available) for quite a while.

That is the box the OP is talking about. And YES, that box allows you to add information that was not present before the bidding began. But all the original information is still in the main description box, that box cannot be changed.

They are two different boxes.

@hardrhymer76  Thank you. And let me condense that:

After bids have been submitted, you "can't" EDIT the (existing) listing description. But you CAN "add to the description" (by using the "Additional Description" box.)

Maybe an ebay glitch tonight since some other threads mention major problems with listing/revising.

Or send the bidder a message with the extra information and ask them if they want to keep their bid or cancel. Same if you add more information, let them know and ask them the same question.
