I sold a DVD recorder to a customer over a month ago. It was new but open in the original box. Still wrapped in plastic as was the remote and cables. I listed the item as new. In the description I listed what was included and that the box was open. The customer is now requesting the owner's manual, which I realize would be expected with an item that is listed as new. It did not occur to me at the time of listing the item that I was missing the owner's manual. In my defense, there is no owner's manual in any pictures nor is it stated that an owners manual was included with this item. All of this being said, I can understand why the customer may have expected it to come with an owner's manual. I also do anything within my power to keep my customers happy. I have found the owner's manual online. I would like to email it to the customer rather than printing it out and mailing it. Am I allowed to ask the customer for their email address? Any advice as to the best way to resolve this issue would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and advice.

Send the buyer a link to the manual in eBay messages.
Tell them to cut and paste the text into a browser.

Have you contacted that buyer THROUGH EBAY, told him about this and asked how he would like you to handle it? Or, since you found it online, could you simply tell him where he could find it and print it out?

Buyer playing games for a freebie or partial refund.

That's what I would do.
Great minds think alike. 😉

How complicated is the DVD player that you actually need a manual? I agree with Sextons. If sending them the link to the pdf doesn't work, I doubly agree.
Did a manual even come with the player or just a notice telling the buyer to go online. You didn't offer a manual, just the items listed.

Leave it alone.

Its a DVD recorder/player. Whilst I'd no problem at all with such things nor might you that doesn't mean someone else wont who has no idea what say HDMI is or RCA jacks, input/output. My lady has Multiple Sclerosis and that's put some "Blamo's" are her cognitive abilities. So... Back 20 years ago she'd gone to college for nursing, aced everything including various levels of Microbiology courses. I've looked at the books, makes Software Engineering look like childs play for the most part. Now, well, she'd have problem with that DVD Recorder, no doubt about it.

Oh, Lordy... now there's a learning curve. I've got a Pioneer combo VCR/DVD burner here at home, and while I love it (invaluable for transferring old home videotapes to DVD, for one thing), it is not very intuitive. You're not likely to figure it all out by just pushing buttons at random.
Someone told me several years ago now that the combo VCR/DVD recorder/players were the most-returned category of electronics in the big box stores. People just couldn't figure them out.
As for getting an email address from the buyer, the encrypted eBay address for the buyer goes away after two weeks (and their off-eBay email address may get filtered if they try to send it), but the buyer's phone number remains visible for as long as the Sold record itself remains, so if all else fails, I would just phone them up and ask.

DVD player ? I can't even use my label maker without the manual🤣 and setting stuff on my phone (landline) leaves the air blue.

Exactly! I live in dread for the two times a year when I have to reset my bedside clock -- not the alarm, just set the time an hour later or an hour earlier, which ever is appropriate.

and ya know, if push comes to shove.......................... the buyer mailing address is available for sending the manual after printing. Large envelope (aka flat) via USPS, and contact buyer is available with the drop down arrow for items sold for months.
