Calculated Shipping

Hello,

I recently had a sale for 5+ lb item, I used calculated shipping, the buyer made an offer, we accepted, the buyers address was in our state. Once the buyer paid the buyers shipping address changed to a zone 5 address, this made for a $6 difference in the actual shipping charges, coupled with fees and packing I basically gave this item away. Do sellers have any options when this happens? I could have canceled the sale but the buyer paid and could leave negative feedback. I ended up spending 30 minutes repacking the item to get the weight down to save a little on shipping, but now if there is a problem in shipping I'm worried about negative feedback again. Is this another case where the seller has no protection or do sellers have another option if the buyers address when purchasing does not match the shipping address? Thank you.

Re: Calculated Shipping

So you sent an invoice?  That locks the shipping price into however the buyer is signed in at that moment so they can change the shipping address at checkout and leave you hanging for the difference.

The trick is NOT to send an invoice.........Ebay does it anyway so there is really no need to send one.  That way when they checkout and change the shipping address.....that is the zip that will be used to figure the shipping cost and the buyer will have to pay it.

Re: Calculated Shipping

I did send an invoice, thank you. That was helpful. I won't be doing that in the future. Thanks again.

If you ever do send an invoice and the buyer changes the ship to location you can cancel legitimately with "problem with buyer's address".  If they leave a neg, you should be able to get it removed, or leave a professional response along the lines "buyer changed address after invoicing".
