Buyers who win items but don't pay

In the past week I have had 4 buyers win cards in auction and none of them want to pay, so I have to open unpaid item cases against them, why doe's ebay let these people get away with this, buyers need to be able to give negitive feedback people will know to stay clear of these bad buyers.  I'm tired of it, WAKE UP EBAY YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THE GOOD SELLERS.  Im about to quit ebay and go else where to sell.

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

You can, of course, sue the non-paying bidder for breach of contract, but that usually isn't economically feasible.  I would suggest merely filing a UID if they haven't paid in the 48 hours or a longer period if you specified one in your TOS; closing it 96 hours later giving them a strike and putting them on your BBL.

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

Seeing similar issues here, and its a very new phenomenon. Usually "buyer" wins the item, then asks for a discount or free shipping even though they won on the terms offered, and then they dont pay. I raise a case, ebay does nothing, "buyer" carries on as normal, and I lose my sellers fees. One thought is if we as sellers agree to block "buyers" who have defaulted on other sellers listings, then a) it might make these buyers wake up if they find they are blovked from bidding across the board, and b) ebay might take notice as they will start getting lots of complaints from buyers, and maybe they will start to come round to support sellers a little more. What do people think? Can we name defaulting "buyers" in this forum?

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

Many times I get more profit and more interest when I list items in an auction over Buy it now. However, I have been listing more and more fixed price listings with immediate pay required. Part of the fun for me was watching people looking at my items and bidding them up. I have a store but it is just for fun. I generally take money earned and pay my store fee and buy items I like for myself. Ebay will not MAKE buyers pay

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

Every seller could probably list some buyers that dont pay. However it is like everything else people wont stick together on this idea. I block and report all buyers that do not pay. Thats about all that can be done.

Uh, no.

If you file Unpaid Item cases on them, they get an "Unpaid Item Strike".  You can block bidders with more than __ unpaid items in the last __ months, under Site Preferences.  For Auction sellers in categories with high unpaid item issues, this can eliminate a lot of your non-paying bidders.

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

I'm hoping with the transition to Adyen over the next 2 years, eBay will require a payment to be on file before bidding on the item is allowed ... then, once the bidder wins, the payment will be immediately charged to the winning bidder's payment method.

Yeah, no. I'm not putting a credit card on Ebay and allowing unfettered access just for the privilege of buying. I've spent over a quarter million here and NEVER not paid for a purchase. I'd just walk away from auctions and I suspect there are many GOOD buyers out there who would do the same.

What's that? There are no good paying buyers on Ebay? Ideas like this are why. There are processes in place to prevent and deal with the problem. Use them and don't send away more paying buyers.

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

Hello .....

I too, who never write in, feel compelled to.

Just recently I sold a pair of pre-owned shoes and the buyer held them for 5 days before telling me they have scuffs. I was went as far as offering to pay for shipping as a nice gesture but they wanted a full refund. Of course I lost and now must accept the return.  In my description and in my post I state that shoes and jewelry are not refundable (because buyers can wear them and return them).  It has happened!   My question is how do I fight this?

I also would like your opinions on why if we post a "buy it now" and also offer a "best offer" the buyer can get the reduced price from the seller but then does not have to pay immediately?  It then can take 7 days from the time we accept their best offer!

We as sellers make money for eBay and PayPal but never seem to get the respect or their backing.

As soon as they require that, it will be the last bid I place on eBay.

welcome to a dried up site if they did that.

Re: Buyers who win items but don't pay

@laurabeardsley. I believe I lose the 35 cents listing price everytime this happens.

no.

With both cancellations at buyer request and Unpaid Item Disputes your FVF are refunded.

That is correct.  You don't get the listing fee back (or you get cheated out of your "Free" listing - which you may have actually paid for via a Store subscription - as the case may be).

Never use the word excellent unless it's brand new - take pics of all sides of the item - especially the soles on shoes. Just from the 2 pics you have I can see a spot and scuffing but being white and the pics a bit dark - it is hard to see. Your description should be more than a sentence - describe it as if there were no pictures. If I receive an item that I'm not happy with of course I want a full refund - money will not make the shoes in excellent condition.

Stop wasting time with auctions.  Make them fixed price with immediate payment required.

thanks for the info, but what makes it worse is I sent the buyer a message and told him I had combined the order for him and he messaged me back saying thanks, so he knows he had won the item plus a invoice was sent.

Often times these NPB are experienced buyers and know they actually have 6 days to pay before they get a strike.   Kind of like a grace period.  Ebay does not care because ebay makes money as soon as an item receives a bid.   Many sellers do not bother to file Unpaid Item Cases so ebay makes money.   They have hoops in place for sellers to jump through for fee credit.
