Buyers don't leave feedback

I find most sellers leave feedback. Some the moment I buy. Most buyers never do.

As a seller, if I leave feedback first, all I know is that they paid. Wait a few days, and I know USPS says they got it. I can give much better feedback if they go first. After all, once they get the item, they know everything about the transaction. If buyer goes first, at least I know they are not going to pull some **bleep**, and can feel safe leaving them nice feedback. If they would just drop me a message saying thanks, I could give them 5 stars on communication.

I've tried leaving them feedback first, and still they don't bother. If not happy, they are certain the leave negative feedback. Happy, yawn...

Same thing I experienced as an Uber driver. 98% were perfectly happy with the ride. If even a tiny detail was wrong, I got bad feedback. Some actually lied. Only 30% of happy riders got around to leaving feedback, so my accumulated average looked far lower than reality.

What is the big deal? It takes 30 seconds to leave feedback. I think ebay should pressure users to leave feedback, perhaps a rating that shows up when you check their profile. I'd like to block buyers with bad feedback participation scores from bidding on my items.

Re: Buyers don't leave feedback

I have been consistent, nearly 100%, in giving feedback as a buyer since 2006. Recently, however, I had occasion to give my first ever less-than-positive feedback, a neutral response to my experience with the product for which I gave both criticism and praise for different features. I gave five stars for all those categories, shipping, etc. that ask for star ratings. The seller responded with a critical, rather angry message that not only was in my eBay messages but also in my personal email. My feeling now is to cease participating in feedback of any kind if eBay has no policy against that kind of response from a seller.

It has been that way for decades it will never change in the constraints of today.

Re: Buyers don't leave feedback

We all know that FB is entirely optional/voluntary for both buyers and sellers, right?

What "constraints of today"?

Re: Buyers don't leave feedback

As a buyer, I only leave positive feedback if the item is packaged properly. Sellers who ship items in a plastic bag or padded envelope don't deserve positive feedback, and that's how 95% of my purchases arrive today. I'm elated when a cardboard box arrives and a purchase is carefully packaged, and I'm more than happy to leave positive feedback when that happens. But it doesn't happen very often anymore. Even when I receive a box, there's usually no bubble wrap or peanuts or paper inside, and the item's outer packaging has taken a beating.

IIRC no one has "pressured" me into leaving positive feedback since the late 1990s. If they did, and I wasn't totally satisfied with their packaging, they'd get a neutral at best. I think most sellers know when to leave well enough alone, although that's giving a lot of credit to the sanity and professionalism of eBay users.
