I find most sellers leave feedback. Some the moment I buy. Most buyers never do.
As a seller, if I leave feedback first, all I know is that they paid. Wait a few days, and I know USPS says they got it. I can give much better feedback if they go first. After all, once they get the item, they know everything about the transaction. If buyer goes first, at least I know they are not going to pull some **bleep**, and can feel safe leaving them nice feedback. If they would just drop me a message saying thanks, I could give them 5 stars on communication.
I've tried leaving them feedback first, and still they don't bother. If not happy, they are certain the leave negative feedback. Happy, yawn...
Same thing I experienced as an Uber driver. 98% were perfectly happy with the ride. If even a tiny detail was wrong, I got bad feedback. Some actually lied. Only 30% of happy riders got around to leaving feedback, so my accumulated average looked far lower than reality.
What is the big deal? It takes 30 seconds to leave feedback. I think ebay should pressure users to leave feedback, perhaps a rating that shows up when you check their profile. I'd like to block buyers with bad feedback participation scores from bidding on my items.

I think it's human nature to only speak up when you have something bad to say.
The good news is that feedback is voluntary and no longer affects your eBay standing. Seasoned users may still look at it but I find that since e-commerce has blown up, people view all selling platforms the same, don't really realize they are dealing with individual sellers and regular online stores don't have feedback so they don't go looking for it.
I'm sure most people wouldn't hesitate to buy from you with your 1074 feedback. Leave feedback if/when you feel like it and keep on selling!

If buyers are forced to leave feedback (don't know how this would be done)
You may not like what you get.

What is the big deal?
It isn't a "big deal" unless you make it so.
I'd like to block buyers with bad feedback participation scores from bidding on my items.
Really??????? You think feedback is more important than making a sale?
Into your life it will creep

They do. They get spammed with annoying "reminders".

I leave feedback when I print the shipping label . If the buyer doesn't leave feedback in 30 days , I send them a friendly reminder. Some leave feedback. Many just send me a message thanking me. I think ebay makes it way to hard to figure out how to leave feedback for the novice buyer. All in all I am just happy that they bought my stuff and just move on to the next sale. It is what it is..................

I would say maybe 50-60% of buyers leave feedback but lately it seems like hardly any one is. Maybe not as many people going on eBay. I think sometimes if someone purchases an item and doesn't leave a feedback right away after receiving it maybe they just forget until they go online again to shop on eBay. Occasionally I get one for something I sold weeks or even months ago.

You know that FB is entirely optional and voluntary, not mandatory/required,right?
Just checking.
And FB is so important to you (as a seller with 1074) that you'd be willing to lose sales by blocking buyers "with bad feedback participation scores"?

I think I'm gonna start leaving Negative feedback for sellers not leaving me feedback 🤣
Good enough to take my money and send me my purchase - but doesn't bother leaving feedback?
Goes both ways tho, I currently have sellers awaiting feedback for items that I was more than happy with
they won't be getting feedback

I leave feedback for every single purchase/sale (only sold 5 things tho LOL
Just remember, it goes both ways, I currently have sellers awaiting feedback for items that I was more than happy with, but for some reason more than a month later I have no feedback from them?
in that case, they won't be getting feedback from me 😁

Sellers may consider their experience to be complete only after their valued buyer has left a feedback and at this stage that particular transaction may be considered complete and seller has a clear and final view on how that particular transaction went and should respond by leaving feedback. Sellers can only leave positive feedbacks as they are not allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers.
Consider a case where 30 or more days after buyer received their item and during this time no communication from buyer reporting any issues , Seller assumes all is well leaves positive feedback and then buyer leaves negative feedback.
Seller is not given the opportunity to rectify any issues that buyer had. To some this behaviour may be considered unreasonable and not deserving of positive feedback as that particular transaction no longer represents a positive experience by the seller and sellers can not make any changes to feedback left.
Rather than leave a negative feedback because the seller did not leave feedback in the first instance please consider removing the positive feedback you did leave and this way seller does not get your vote of confidence.
Please accept our apology if our opinion annoys or upsets you as this is not our intention and we are just trying to give you an alternative view.
Thank you and stay safe

Is Feedback Important?
As a Seller, Feedback is very important to me. I give a positive feedback when putting my shipment together. What I have experienced, as a buyer, most sellers do the same. Very few wait until you send a feedback to them, and Very Very rare never send one, and that is Very Very Stupid not to thank your customers.
I think that a lot of Buyers do not put much importance on Feedbacks for a variety of reasons. I just went back on 110 deliveries and 46 buyers gave a feedback. I noticed that almost all buyers with less than 100 Feedbacks did not leave a Feedback. I find it easy to leave a Feedback but I guess some may not.
Two years ago, I used to send a well crafted pre-prepared message, (copy and Paste) to those after a month from their purchase, saying thanks again and was everything OK and so on. I would ask for a Feedback. One gave me a negative and said I was harassing them. So I stopped sending messages. By the way, eBay removed it because they saw the email I sent to him. This was back when you could get someone on the phone.
So let the chips fall where they may. Keep thanking your customers and do a good job sending your items.

@hufstedler I kind of like the idea of a "Participation Score" ...
After 6 years of Selling Buyer feedback has been very consistent between 55% - 60%. I leave FB for Buyers while the label is printing out, that way its done and I don't have to think about it. If Buyers leave it in return that's great, if not I see it as "no news is good news".
I am looking forward to the day when they have a better system.
I will add this though, it seems every place you go they want your feedback. One of the Postal clerks always circles the survey link on my receipts and says don't forget to do the survey. If I do certain things online I get the request to give them feedback ... its almost like it is never ending.

An excellent and well-thought-out message. However, I disagree with your conclusion. If Feedback is "very important", do you think that it would ruin eBay if eBay decided to do away with it altogether? Probably not. And some sellers would be relieved because it's been pretty much one-sided for FOREVER.

@soh.maryl Since 2008 ...
The downside to any system though is the fact that humans are involved and therefore it is subjective just like Seller metrics that rely on the honesty or dishonesty of Buyers.
