Buyers Not Paying

I have had several buyers recently who won one of my items but never paid.    Are any of you having the same problem?  I have blocked the buyers who did not pay, but I suspect some might have several accounts.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

I had a slew of "scammers" who made offers.  And when I messaged them or sent an invoice they asked me to call them or send me my phone #.

Click the link with their alias name and see if they are "new" buyers, or have a history with Ebay.  I learned to do that and the scammers had no history with EB.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

I tried buy-it-now with those (and other) items but it can take an eternity for people to "bite" on set-price, buy-it-now items, especially given the current/inflationary state of the economy, where a lot of people are in garage sale mode a/k/a they're trying/hoping to get everything for $1...lol. Don't get me wrong, buy-it-now is great for niche items, where one doesn't mind "listing & forgetting" for weeks/months on end, but seriously, who wants to wait that long, not me + I really don't have the space to store/stock items for weeks/months on end.

Excellent advice!  I want to do this but how/where does one need to go to set the "Buyer Requirements to the strictest possible setting of 2 unpaid strikes in 12 months"?   If you can post a direct link, it would likely get a lot more people to follow through.

@midwestdistributors

Also check your Site Preferences for Buyer Requirements as there has been some RECENT changes.  Specifically the bottom two choices.

Here is a link to get to this.  https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements

Why would you message them to send an invoice????  Either just send it or wait for the payment.  Buyers automatically get an invoice from Ebay when they purchase an item.

You may be inviting trouble handling it the way you do.  Try to stop sending those emails and see what happens.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

What kind of items to do normally sell? Are you setting up exclusoins for places that you don't want to ship to?

YES!! I'm also seeing an uptick in non-payments and can't figure out what the heck is going(!?) I've been selling on eBay for 30+ years and it used to be I would only get 1 or 2 non-payments per year, but now I'm seeing 1-2 non-payments per month, which  I consider odd/curious given I haven't changed the way I list my eBay items. I really hope eBay comes up with a solution soon, that helps crack down on the rise in non-payments.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

Good points on auctions... I am thinking about doing some auctions on my selling account of stuff that has been hanging around too long... but isn't there a filter that anyone with too many unpaid item strikes cannot purchase?

Are sellers who are getting these non-payers opening disputes? Just wondering

Re: Buyers Not Paying

My experience with opening a non-payment dispute is, eBay doesn't exactly make the process very transparent, or as intuitive as it could or should be... especially for sellers who are not familiar with, or don't have the time to navigate all the eBay sub-menus. The option to file a non-payment dispute (and add a non-payment strike to a buyer's profile) needs to be more transparent and more front and center, especially right after an auction has ended and it's obvious that a buyer is giving the seller the "run-around" or completely ignoring repeated payment/invoice reminders from the seller.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

@midwestdistributors  and @jerseyboymusic

There is no such thing as a "non payment dispute" anymore.  And I completely disagree, the process is not only transparent it is extremely easy.

If a buyer does pay, the seller can CANCEL the transaction using the reason The Buyer Didn't Pay 96 hours after the buyer made the purchase.  Once the cancellation is filed, the seller is free to move on, relist the item and sell it to someone else.

There are not "sub menus" to navigate, just one.  You can see the option in the Seller Hub, to the left of the item not yet paid, the down arrow menu, towards the bottom it says Cancel, click on that.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/unpaid-item-policy?id=4271

One word of caution.  Do NOT send out reminder invoices.  The 96 hour clock restarts every time an invoice is sent.

I guess it's been that long since I filed a "non-payment dispute"!

Re: Buyers Not Paying

eBay already has a process in place to handle nonpaying bidders.

Also, if a buyer will not pay for a purchase, how could he be made to pay that "small fee"?

Re: Buyers Not Paying

Are you not routinely cancelling, citing "buyer did not pay" as the reason?

Or, you can set your listings so that that happens automatically.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

The process to handle a nonpaying bidder is about as transparent as it can possibly be.

And you need to quit sending more invoices because that action resets the time the buyer has to pay.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

I rest my case… the very words in your last reply, prove that reporting/giving strikes to repeat/habitual non-payment buyers, isn’t as intuitive or as clear as it could or needs to be…ie/eg…newer sellers would have no idea that sending invoices “resets the 96hr clock.” Also, a lot of new sellers will likely cancel the sale & unknowingly skip the steps for reporting a buyer for non-payment.

Re: Buyers Not Paying

That’s part of my original point, how are new/newer sellers supposed to know that sending invoices, resets the 96hr window?
