Buyer wants to return item as he expected something that wasn't in any pictures or description

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305316831755

Buyer has started a return as he said he expected the item to turn up in a branded Ray-Ban box.  I didn't include a box in any pictures, it wasn't mentioned in the description and I didn't get a box when buying the item on the high street (I still have the receipt for the purchase).

His argument is that as it was listed as New with Tags he expected the item to come in a Ray-Ban box.  In my opinion I accurately listed the product and delivered exactly what I had advertised.  What are my chances of eBay finding in my favour or is it worth just giving a refund in this case?

The "opinion" is, you will have to take the return and refund the buyer.

I don't buy that brand of glasses. Being at the higher price scale for the brand, I would expect they may come in a box. Just because you didn't get one from the vendor, doesn't mean it doesn't come with one.

If I go to Sweetwater and buy a new Fender, it comes in a box. But Sweetwater usually disposes of all of the boxes, so you need to ask for it IF you want it. Could be the same case with the glasses you bought.

The bottom line is, sellers are powerless against an INAD case. You must accept the return and refund the buyer or eBay will just refund them out of your money.

@steel_city_sneaks If the buyer selected Item Not as Described you will have to pay for the return shipping or eBay will deduct it from your account. Your best bet is to accept the return and issue the return label or you will also receive a defect on your selling account. It happens; it's a part of selling online. The glasses will sell again but you need to get them back to do so. Best of luck to you....

Your chances are nil with eBay, but a full refund is in order only after your item comes back to you. Good luck.

I kinda know even before I look..."seller(you)does not takes returns".

Buyer is hoping you do nothing...then buyer gets a refund per eBay and keeps the item.

Do the return...and chances are buyer may not return it...some buyers do not...its like a "truth or dare game".

And sending an eBay shipping label if not used by buyer...you won't be charged for the label.

Whatever you do, don't allow ebay to decide the case.

Accept the return, provide the return label and refund upon return of the product.

If ebay decides the case before the buyer sends your item back, you lose the money and the buyer is not obligated to send back the item.

And, eBay does not reimburse your final value fees.

And, your account gets a nasty defect.

Assuming that your statements are ABSOLUTELY true and you neither showed nor mentioned a box then click on "report buyer" and state buyer made demand not in listing and detail the information about the box. Further down the road that will offer some protection against an INAD claim.

Appreciate everyone in the replies telling me to just give the refund and hope I get my item back in one piece.  Sent the buyer an eBay label so it's up to him to do his part now, cheers everyone for the advice.

Not entirely unreasonable for the buyer to assume the new glasses come in the manufacturers box. Next time make SURE in the listing you say something about these items not coming in their original boxes in the listing description REGARDLESS of what pictures you have posted. People will assume some things especially if you listed it new.

I always for 60 years have been wearing Ray Ban Wayfarer glasses since the 1960s when Jackie Kennedy came on the tv and a reporter asked her what sunglasses was she wearing.  She said Ray Ban Wayfarers and I  immediately ran out and bought myself a pair thinking if it was good enough for our elegant First Lady, they were good enough for me.

I have bought through the years many many pairs of them always changing my pair when my eye prescription changed as it did for my entire lifetime as is normal.

I bought them from many different places or stores and never do I remember receiving a Ray Ban eye glass case.

I do have generic cases for them but as a constant buyer of Ray Ban, never in my life even once, were they ever sold to me with the brand case…

I agree. If they would come in a box if you bought them new from the store, you need to make VERY clear that yours do not include a box if you're going to list them as being "New."

The op said they listed them New With TAGS, so I assume there was some kind of tags or stickers attached and shown in the photos.  -They might not have even known that these glasses are sometimes sold in a box, if they bought theirs brand new and it wasn't in a box.  Also, what seller who DOES have the box not include it in at least one photo?  -It would be downright dumb not to show that, as it would be an obvious perk to buyers.
