Buyer wants his winning bid canceled by the seller (me) because he "made a mistake".

Buyer messaged me and asked me to cancel his winning bid because he "made a mistake".  Auction ended 10/06, makes his request today 10/09. He placed his winning bid with 10 minutes left in the auction and was the only bidder. Not the first time this has happened (but with different buyers). How would you handle this? Cancel his bid as he requested or report him for non-payment?

@edtrade99

I always cancel when a buyer requests.  All I am out is a bit of my time. I feel there is no advantage for me in seeing that the buyer get a non-pay strike. At lease they message to request. If I get no request I let the non-pay work as designed.

I never press my luck. Some buyers , to avoid a non-pay might just go ahead with the payment, and then return for false reasons.

The rest of the world basically allows people to change their minds. I'm not here to fight that.

3 days is rather rude, but better than some of the alternatives.

I would not cancel it myself, you can not make them pay but I would still not cancel.

Definitely just cancel and relist.

I would just cancel and relist it. It looks like you sell lower priced items anyways.

Cancelling a $5.50 item sale that could result in the seller paying shipping there and back would be a "no brainer" decision for me.

You have one more day to go, wait and cancel for non payment.

Lol. Well not exactly. Football card for $800 few weeks ago, comics listed now for $100+, but I get your point.

You cancel the sale and select "buyer asked to cancel the sale" in the drop-down menu since there is a record of that communication.  Had the buyer not contacted you, then you should consider the non-payment route.

Wait 4 days until you can cancel the order because buyer didn't pay, to put a strike on their account.

Block buyer immediately. Never let them be able to buy from you again.

I only suggest cancelling order after 4 days with buyer didn't pay, because if you force them to pay they probably will damage the item and demand a return, and you deal with the hassle of all that plus a busted item.

Since the buyer reached out, I would cancel as requested.

I would wait for the auction to end, and if they are the winner, I would cancel per bidder request.

Just cancel - you don't need your item to be hung up for days waiting to make the punitive strike - he contacted you instead of just ghosting.
