Buyer return with missing parts….

Hi

i sold pair of Moissanite earrings and 10 days later buyer file return and say she just didn’t like it…

I received the earrings back just 20 minutes a go and original 14k earring back is missing and she replace with metal backing not even gold or silver….

I sold to her complete earring sets in solid 14k and backs are solid 14k backs inside of silicone outside and it is not easy to find silicone backing with 14k butterfly backs inside silicone….and most sellers do not sell single but pairs of this backs 

she never mentioned to me about she lost the backs…

now what?

I cannot resist earrings without 14k original backs and I have to buy the same size backs and it cost me $24 

I really hate dishonest people.

I took picture and send to the buyer and asked why she didn’t mention this?

should I call ebay and ask? Or wait for buyer response…I want to refund her now but I feel this is unfair and very dishonest….

Sorry to read. Yes, way too many crooks and scam artists. Same thing happens with vacuum tubes. Buyer buys a tube, receives it installs in his application, then files a return, sending the dead one back. Totally dishonest.

Ouch! Item returned whatever it was...have to refund her.

Lucky it wasn't something slimy like I got back or a girlie post card...both had tracking by the buyers returning them. 

Maybe going to a jewelry repair shop...they can find replacements for you at a cheap price.

I think you can deduct shipping costs....in the refund...it's a remorse return...buyer paids to return it.

You should be able to deduct up to 50% of the refund.

I would at least try to refund and withhold the expense. 

Do it before eBay refunds for you. They are trigger happy to refund buyers once the seller has the item back.

Select "There is a problem with the return"

Say the buyer returned the item missing parts or "Returned wrong item".

Let eBay review the evidence. They will likely rule in favor of the buyer.

Then appeal the decision and if you show sufficient documentation they will reverse their decision. Actually eBay just eats it and refunds both parties. But this is the only way I know to prevent from getting screwed...

You will risk a defect on your account using this method if the appeal is unsuccessful.

If you are a top rated seller or you have free returns you have a built-in Seller Protection to be able to take off 50% off of refunds If an item is returned not in the condition that it was received. If you utilize this you won't get your fees back but for expensive items it is worth it. If they call eBay and complain eBay will likely give them the rest of the refund out of eBay's pocket.
