Hi,
I have a pretty heavy item, priced at $250, that I listed as local pickup only.
Yesterday, someone bought it, which I was extremely happy about. ...until I saw that the buyer is just opened their eBay account yesterday AND they are clear across the country. They are a confirmed PayPal buyer however...not sure if that makes it more legit.
The concern is that I haven't been able to reach them via eBay message system and don't have their email, either. I'm not sure what to think.
Has anyone else had something similar happen?

OK, so to follow up--I got in touch with the buyer, and they need the item shipped.
Asked about COD shipping. It's a heavy freight item, at least 400, maybe 500lbs. Anyone ship heavy freight?

Anyone ship heavy freight?
Not any more. Buyer claims Not as Described, you are going to be paying return freight to "maybe" get your item back, and refunding as well.

Been through it. Some where in the listing or search page when you have local pickup only it shows free shipping because the buyer pays nothing to pick it up. How dumb is that! It's been a problem that's been mentioned here before. Noticed it myself. It only shows it on one page in one spot but that's all it takes to make the buyer think it's free shipping.
I sold a power wheelchair a couple of months ago. Same thing. Experienced EBayer bought it then realized the shipping wasn't free.
He wanted me to deliver it but it was way to far for me. Told him I wanted to cancel the transaction. A couple of hours later I get a message from eBay asking me to be patient with this transaction and to call him and they gave me a phone number. The phone number they gave me was my own! He finally did call me.
Anyway it ended up the guy got connected with a company that puts the frieght up for bid. I can not remember the name of this company but I was very impressed. Not a frieght company but a small individual trucking outfit won the bid. Two guys, box truck, no transferring the item and they gave a hoot that it showed up in one piece.
The buyer was a disabled vet who need this specific chair and I ended up very glad I helped him out.
As any transaction on here this is not without risk as ittybitnot has mentioned
