I was selling something for $53. I had a buyer offer $100. They have a decent number of positive reviews. Should I be worried this is a scam?

I would be.Was this the FIFA 21.. with a buy it now of $80 if so definitely be worried esp if they ask for you phone number or email or give you theirs

Yes, is there any logical readon why they wouldn't just buy it for $53.00? Should you accept they will next ask you to text them. Once you do they will send you a fake paypal email telling you that you have been paid and they hope you will ship the item based on the fake email. Anyone asking you to text or call them, or to include gift cards is a scammer.

Yes. It's a scam brewing. Nobody would offer more than they can buy it for unless they're
C R A Z Y.
Seriously, why pay $100 when you're asking $53? They want you to be so thrilled at the dollar signs that when they ask you to enclose a gift card you'll be happy to do that. Then they'll want your PayPal address to send a FAKE payment receipt. What they're doing is trying to steal gift cards. They really don't want what you're selling unless they can get it free. Forget about tbeir feedback because they probably hijacked the account they're using.

If the listing is buy it now, then it most certainly is a scam. Doesn't make send when they could just buy it now and pay $53. They will engage with you to try to trick you in to making a mistake, like they say they will pay you an extra $300 to include a $200 gift card in the package and they will give you a different address to send it to, letting you keep the extra $100. Then you realize they sent you fake e-mail saying you have been paid when you actually haven't been paid. You lose the item and you lose the $300 gift card you sent.
If the listing is an auction, then it's probably not a scam. They just want the item and realize it is a good deal, and others will want it too if the auction runs it's course, and they don't want to risk the item getting bid up real high. That is your decision if you want to end the auction to let them person purchase at $100 or take a chance to see if the auction will go higher.

"My opinions and post are my own and not necessarily those of my employer"
Yes, Why would anybody pay almost double? The answer is to over ride your rational thought and tap into that momentary greed that "I don't want to lose this" sale.
Next will be can you text me, and then the fake it's been paid message. it's a gift for some one can you rush ship it and ohhh can you add a gift card I will pay extra for your gas and time.

It's a scam. Ignore them

Auction or buy it now, $100 is more than either one. I would block them and report them to ebay to put them on the radar.

I'll buy it for $101.
Please contact my mother's cousin for payment.
Yes....it's a scam.

The only other reason besides scam that I can think of, is it's someone who has the same thing to sell and wants yours off the market for the next 6 days.

Put the ID on your blocked list and ignore their message.

So true, I have no issue offering double the starting price ( ON AUCTIONS with Best Offer) to snag something that is a steal even at double the price. Most of these the seller listed incorrectly and want to close the deal before anyone realizes it.

Oh they won't ever pay.
Object lesson in not using text or email for ebay business. They will send you a spoof payment or do the Moneygram nonsense.
