Buyer left offensive feedback with eBay refuses to remove

The buyer left feedback saying “See you in the gas chamber.”

It seems like this ought to be against eBay’s policies but after reaching out twice (through chat and phone) they have refused to remove it. Has anyone had experience with a situation like this? Should I continue to reach out to eBay until I get a rep who agrees to remove it? Is it worth creating a Twitter account?

i don't offend too easily, but i think that's pretty offensive. be it through opening a twitter account, or repeated phone calls, i would pursue this if i were you.

If it were me, I would not let it go so easily.  You can try eBay for Business on Facebook, too.

Well, the feedback certainly doesn't represent what happened in the transaction. I'd try for removal, too.

That feedback clearly needs to go and is for sure, without a doubt, in violation of their policies.

The fact they didn't remove it shows how stubborn and inept some of their CS agents are. This is about the most egregious example of it I have seen.

If you haven't already tried the request to remove feedback, try here -- ebay.com/help/seller-help/request-help

I would think the "Profane or inappropriate remarks" option would apply here!

Re: Buyer left offensive feedback with eBay refuses to remove

Yeah, that's not right.  I would just continue to reach out to eBay CS to find someone that can remove it.  Be diplomatic in how you speak to eBay since some of the CS agents like to feel above us normal folks. You should begin taking note of days, times and who you speak to just in case you need to take this up their food chain.  We have all had our share of these types of people here.  If all else fails, leave some sort of a follow-up to their feedback making fun of their one liner. Like, with the price of gas going up that would be a real waste or such.  You should also mention to eBay that this is hate speech, being a gas chamber and all.  That might get their attention. Above all don't let it get to you personally.  Anyone seeing it will take it for what it is worth - zero. Wish you luck.

Yes, it looks like it has been removed. I replied to one of the emails explaining why it was offensive and should be removed, and eBay also respond to that email stating it would be removed. Thanks for your help.

Good idea, that is the first thing I tried. I was shocked when they said it was allowed.

I noticed you removed it. I had posted my strategy for dealing with something I thought was very offensive, but it occurred to me my statements might not be appreciated by the mods, so I removed my post.

Re: Buyer left offensive feedback with eBay refuses to remove

Back in 1979 I took a criminal justice class not far from San Quentin prison in Marin County.  The class took a tour inside the prison that included a look the gas chamber.   We had the option to sit on the chair which I did but several people wouldn't even walk inside the chamber.  It was quite eerie.

On the way out after a 45 minute discussion with the convicted murderers who acted as our guides we were treated to a walk along the "main line" where hundreds of prisoners whistled and gave cat calls to most of us.  What convinced me to not become a cop was the final walk through the exercise yard where dozens of massive guys were lifting weights like there was no tomorrow.   Construction turned out to be safer and much more lucrative for me than a career in law enforcement.

If not for that tour of San Quentin I might have made a different choice.   Had I been 6'5" tall instead of 5'9" on a good day I might have stayed in criminal justice.
